I really like cold broccoli sandwiches. Just boil it up, let it cool, bit of mayo, salt and pepper. Delish.
Probably not to everybodies taste though.{Signature removed by Forum Team}0 -
Humous, ham and lettuce - i'm hungry now! We make our own humous and freeze it so it's very cheap.0

Cheapie sandwich which we just ate for our sunday dinner LOL.
Four slices of bread (aldi cheap stuff......quite alright, 37p a loaf, 2p a slice? Tops?) 8p.
3 eggs. eggs are 2.97 for 30 from asda. 30p
Dollop of mayonnaise....cheap stuff from Lidl 5p.
1/2 tsp of paprika - 1p
1 small onion - 10p
3 cheese triangles (lidls own, £2.40 for 24) 30p
Hard boil the eggs, slice and dice onion and fry it off whilst eggs are cooking.
When eggs are cooked, mix cheese triangles, mayo, eggs, paprika and fried onions and mash it all together.
This gives you a whopping thick sandwich - in fact, with two more slices of bread, this would serve 3 I reckon. We're just greedy LOL.
So, grand total, 84p for a sandwich for two/three. Not the cheapest sandwich, but darn tasty, and a LOT cheaper than buying two from the shop, which we did think about doing as we were at the allotment.
I will be repeating this. Nice and filling, and it doesn't taste like a cheap meal!Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Brill, thanks Penny.
I have another one too. Not a sandwich as in two slices of bread, but yummy nonetheless.
Take four pitta bread (50p)
One can of cheap baked beans (20p)
Bit of grated cheese (30p)
One onion (10p)
Slice and dice onion, fry it off. Add baked beans, heat through. Add cheese and stir through until melted. Fill pitta with it and you have an easy lunch.
I haven't had one of these for a while. I used to virtually live on them LOL.
I so need to get a Breville sandwich toaster. I used to make 'pizza' toasties.
The filling for that, consisted of cheese, onion, tomato puree (just a little spread on the bread) ham if fancied, fresh tomato and a sprinkling of garlic powder. Oooooooooooooh.
I'm hungry again now LOL.Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Hawthorn thanks for that pitta recipe- my hubby will love it!
Pitta pizzas are a fave in our house. Lightly toast the pittas, top with some passata, grated cheese and anything you have lying about ( which tends to be some onion, peppadews or pineapple in our house) then grill for a couple of minutes. Delicious, filling and cheap.
This thread has made me want to take sandwiches tomorrow but we don't have any bread and it too late to make it now:rolleyes: .
A couple of my favourite sarnie fillings to add to the pile are:- Brie and cranberry (Value brie is lovely)- fab toasted too
- Grated cheese, pickled onion and salad cream
- Grated cheese, spring onion, salad cream and beetroot
- Cream cheese or cottage cheese and pineapple rings- particularly good in crusty bread.

Have you ever tried philadelphia or cottage cheese with grape? That's delicious, especially on homemade bread!Proud to be dealing with my debts :T

Hi not sure if this is the right place to post this but everyday my BF takes sarnies for work, ive tried getting him to take soup or left overs but he has no micro at work and likes sarines now im trying to cut the shopping bill we buy monthly we get
2 packets wafa thin ham
2 packets wafe thing chicken
1 tin corned beef
2 tins of tuna
cheese
now the ham and chicken he is really fussy and doesnt like the cheaper stuff (its asdas own that we get but he doesnt like the smart price) now he likes variety but im looking for ways to save some £££ maybe making some fillings that are cheaper, nothing goes to waste at the moment as we freeze the ham and chicken and the other stuff is in tins but cooked meats are expensive i was thinking is there any cheap OS stlye sarnie fillings that i could make or things that are cheaper than buing cooked meats??
any advice is sooooo welcome x0
