I just thought of another one .....

I suppose I could get a bag of cheap frozen prawns, take out what I need the night before and then mix with salad cream/mayo/black pepper in the morning.

A bit of mustard in almost any sandwich cheers it up a bit IMHO :)

Or failing that, horseradish. Great with cheese. :D
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

    fish fingers and chilli jam

    peanut butter and jam

    peanut butter and banana

mashed banana (mix in a drop of lemon juice to stop it browning too badly)

    paste

pate and cucumber (pate from Aldi is nice at 55p per tub)

    cream cheese and cucumber

    tuna, mayo and sweetcorn

    orrrrr........

    Fab one I found

finely chopped onion and celery, mix with mayo and a squirt of ketchup and a chopped egg. Ace thousand island to go with your prawns - better than ANYTHING you'll buy in the shops ;)

    Hi
Can anyone give ideas for the cheapest possible sandwich fillings (preferably savoury, not sweet). I'm bashing my food budget into shape and although we both take our own sandwiches every day I want to be sure I'm not spending more than necessary. Thanks

    Hi,
I have some bits of chicken defrosting in the kitchen which are leftovers from our roast last weekend.
I put them in a bowl with 1 tub of quark, black pepper, paprika and some dried tarragon.
Mix it all up and pop it back into the fridge and by the time i make the sandwiches tonight the flavour will have spread through all of it i just give it a quick mix again before i do the sandwiches.
Firm favourite in our house now.

Planning on starting the GC again soon :p
