did you get to choose something else?

someone on another forum was unsuccessful, but then was able to choose something else, and in july for summer holidays too :)
  • Hi, This is the first year we have booked a sun holiday. I received an email confirmation from the sun on 8th Feb but have not received anything from the holiday park directly. Does anyone know if it does take a while or should I have had something from the holiday park by now.
    Thanks

you should have confirmation by 28th feb
  • I phoned up earlier to book my dog in, extra £30 which I knew about but what I wasn't prepared for was an extra £20 for an 'allocation fee' cos we're taking the dog, making a total of an extra £50!

I haven't heard about this £20 fee before, has anyone else?

Hi I received a confirmation email from the Sun and nothing from the Park so I rang the Park directly. They were very helpful (even let me change my dates) and confirmed the booking for me. The Sun email should contain a direct number for your alloacted park.

This is my first year booking with The Sun Holidays. I have been allocated Lower Hyde on the Isle of Wight and just read the reviews which are awful. Has anyone been to this park and if so what was it like?

you should always read reviews before booking / requesting a site!

Are all of the reviews bad ?

I normally do check when I am booking my main holidays but I didn't even think about it when booking through The Sun. I just assumed it would be of a good standard. Yep all of the reviews I have read say how dirty and run down the caravans are. I have only come across 1 review that said it was good. I did look at the Park Resorst website and they have said some of the carvanas at the site are brand new for 2011 (people with dogs will not be alloacted these ones) and they have also stated that they have re-developed the parking, roads and pathways which was another one of the major compliants. I can only hope that we are alloacted one of the newer caravans.
  • Here are my reviews of the sites we've tried, copied and pasted from a similar thread.

Haven Devon Cliffs (2007/8/9)- Love this site (handy for us, not far, ideal when we have a newborn or one imminent), Havens showcase site and always well looked after. Massive, so loads of entertainment if you like that sort of thing, our children are young enough to love it. Big indoor/outdoor pool with slides etc, but very busy and quite noisy (they have a really nice and dead quiet pool for owners if you can find a way of getting in there!). Nice Spa if you fancy a treat. Beach is nice, although sea-weedy if the tides aren't with you. Have always had a lovely caravan, often been upgraded which is always a bonus. Would highly recommend, but perhaps not if you like a quiet life.
East Devon is beautiful and there is so much to do around Exmouth. I would recommend a day at Bicton for young children and you can go there with Tesco clubcard deals. Plenty of other beaches around if you fancy a change.

Parkdean Challaborough bay (2010)- Stayed here in May. Very pleased with our break, a nice contrast to Haven Devon Cliffs as the small site was quiet and peaceful. Had an upgraded caravan which was clean and nice, we appreciated the extra room. We couldn't have got much closer to the entertainment and beach, both within 20m. Really handy to have the beach so close. Nice staff but limited facilities. We had the childrens entertainer to ourselves when we went in the day and didn't go to the evening entertainment 'til the last night, which I regretted as our 2 year old loved it. Nice pool, again, very quiet. Will definately go back.
We went to Pennywell Farm and our 2 year old has been having imaginary trips there ever since.

Hendra, Newquay in September 2010. Was pleasantly surprised. We booked a basic (cheapest) upgrade and were lucky enough to be given a top upgrade to one of their brand new 2010 top of the range caravans. The site was nice, entertainment was ok. Not that much going on, but probably because we were there in term time. Had to pay extra for the pool, but it was very nice. Would go there again. Lovely beaches locally, but had to take the car each time. The girls liked Dairyland.

Parkdean Mullion, Cornwall (2008)- Were not at all keen on this one. The caravan was pokey and quite grubby, just not that new I guess. We had our travel cot in the sitting room as no other space. The site was small with not a lot going on. The pool was ok. No beach on site, but lots of lovely coast nearby. A really nice part of cornwall to investigate, but we won't be staying at Mullion again. Think it took about 4 hours to get there.

This year we have booked for Devon Cliffs again (imminent baby!) and Haven Weymouth so our list of sites tried continues to grow. Just got back from Disneyland Paris too, but the girls are still excited at the prospect of a caravan holiday.
