i have a question i self asses and had filled in forms for the previous three years unbeknown to me these were wrong due to help i recieved from self assesment people, so i filled in more forms to correct the errors, i was then sent a bill for 5k+, as they had paid out to much money, quite a chunk of this was for interest on the money i owed which they had dated back to the start of the debt, some of this went back three years, is it possible for me to claim this back? also got fined a £100 for late fee as tax office lost my forms can i try and claim this also, any help greatly recieved0

Don't know if any one knows but, HSBC have finally closed my account after my pleading with them for two years after I lost my job. My £2,000 overdraft rose to £10,000 over this time in just interest!!!!!!! Can I reclaim this from HSBC even though my account is now closed and passed to a debt collection agency (who I have been paying monthly for the last year).0

Re: Alliance & Leicester.A quote taken from my local paper the Wolverhampton Express & Star today June 8th 2006.
"Alliance and Leicester is closing the accounts of people who have taken it to Court over its penalty charges......Alliance and Leicester today defended its stance saying the terms and conditions of its current account were made clear to people when they took them out and under the Banking Code it can close customers' accounts as long as it gives them 30 days notice.A spokesman said....'because the Bank did not defend claims in the small claims court did not mean it thought the customers had a case...it was simply not worht the time and effort to fight a case when people only wanted a refund of £50 or £60..'
What sheer bl***y arrogance!.Nothing is foolproof to a sufficiently talented fool.0 -
Right.
Self assesment question - this isn't related to the current issues with unlawful charges. You need to get some advice from somewhere like the Citizens Advice on this.
You can't claim back monthly service charges are these are clearly for a service (although how much of a service you get for your money is doubtful!) and therefore they can charge what they want. It's penalty charges we are claiming for, under laws covering breach of contract, i.e. your contract with your bank.
You can claim for closed accounts and if they're with a DCA - inform the DCA there is a dispute ongoing and they may let o the pressure a bit if they're hassling you. However you didn't say what caused the overdraft to get so big - you can still only claim for direct charges, not interest charged on your overdraft. (If it goes to court you can add on 8% interest but that's a way off for most people and I don't want to confuse everyone!
Mortgage late payment etc charges are discussed at the CAG forums. i think you probably can claim them back and in fact one person has claime dback a large redemption penalty so you need to check out the information available there - I'm not sure on how people are getting on with it as I've got enough to keep me busy (one bank, three credit cards and two finance companies to claim back from).0 -
Can anyone tell me if I can reclaim bank charges on a business account? Do the same rules apply?
Thanks0 -
Can someone help me please? Am writing my 1st letter to claim my charges back, do I send the spreedsheet off with the 1st letter? Thank you.0

I wouldnt mind a copy of someones template 1st letter too please!!
I have tried registering with CAG website and i am still wating for my activation email.
Also regards the issue with A & L shutting down accounts because of sueing is this likley if my current account is held with Barclays and i take this action against Barclaycard???
I think with all thes refunds, we should start giving a percentage of the refun to one of Martins or his teams faviroute charities or may'be a donation to the CAG website for their continued assistance.
All the best
Regards
