    Hi Guys

I need some help, the O/H possibly has a few hundred quids worth of these charges and would gladly claim them back if possible. He's had several cards over the past few years which where not always paid on time. He has now got them all in order and virtually clear, he possibly only has a short time within the 6 years to get these charges back.

Both of us have tried to register with the bank action group website so that we can download the letter templates and send them off and reclaim his charges.

However over 24 hours later and still no email confirming our accounts are active, its his day off tomorrw and if possible he would like to try and get this sorted.

Does anyone have copies of the letter templates or does anyone know what could be wrong with the website???

    Many thanks

    Regards

    MissG

    Just to tell everyone:

AOL has the CAG down as a spammers' site, so blocks all e-mails from there. Since it's an AOL issue, not a CAG issue, we can only advise at this point that you should create a Hotmail or GMail address, or something like that for the purpose. We're trying to talk to AOL, but, well, you know what they're like..

I may be backing out o sueing my bank because of the problem of getting a new account, would be hard for me.

I only moved last week so current address is less then 1 month - very bad
    No landline yet - bad
No bank statements for current address - very bad
No utility bills yet for current address - bad
Not updated electrol roll yet - bad
Poor credit rating - very bad
No photo id - limited choice of banks, very bad for hsbc

I already done a online application for nationwide but messed up the flexaccount app by not including my current account details which is 9+ years current account, debit card/overdraft so makes me look like no banking history.

My elder sister's husband finally got an account (dont know where) when he got the photo version of provisional licence but hsbc only accept full licences so they have taken financial/social exclusion to a new level, only accepting drivers and people who been abroad.

S/one else posted this on another thread, it might help:
Titanium cashplus prepaid MasterCard. It does what it says on the tin. You load it up with money up from 10.00 to 5.000 and use it as you would a MasterCard anywhere you see the sign etc. Also you can get additional cardholders over 13 years of age so good for kids pocket money. There are some charges but I havent checked them out yet on there site. Use it to buy online, abroad instead of travellers cheques load up your card bobs your uncle. No credit check, No bank account required, card you can use from when you sign up. I am off to check out the web site for charges. https://www.titaniumcashplus.co.uk . I forgot to say you can have your wages paid direct into the account, so if your bank threatens to close your account there is another way.

Hi all, please bare with as a complete novice at all this kind of thing!!!
I have read all your posts with interest regarding the claiming back of unlawful charegs and I'm going to go for it against the Abbey and the Halifax!!!
Every month, Abbey charges me nearly £100 in bank charges  which invloves me going overdrawn for which they then charge me again!!!
Just a quick few questions really, if someone could help I'd be much obliged.
Can I send a £10 postal order rather than a cheque as it'll be a bit silly if the cheque bounces!!!
And is it best to take the letter in personally to the branch and then get the persons name you have given it to as proof of delivery?
    Any help appreciated. Thanks!!

PO: don't see why not, but I know of one bank that got funny about it.
Delivery: Some banks are getting wise to this and actually REFUSE to accept the letters at the branch! I'd post it.

Don't know if any one knows but, HSBC have finally closed my account after my pleading with them for two years after I lost my job. My £2,000 overdraft rose to £10,000 over this time in just interest!!!!!!! Can I reclaim this from HSBC even though my account is now closed and passed to a debt collection agency (who I have been paying monthly for the last year).

Yes. Keep paying the DCA though for the time being. Write to them advising amount is now in dispute, so that they know. Then go after your bank.
  • Thanks to the cornflake. Yes some of the overdraft was interest, but the majority were letters at £25.00 a time, about forty, but told by HSBC computer generated and they couldn't stop them! and an additional penalty charge of £30 each month in addition to the interest. Letter going to HSBC this weekend!!!!!

Handed in my letters personally to the Abbey and Halifax yesterday. The receptionist was a bit funny but when I told her it was private and confidential, she took it. So here goes. The wheels are in motion. Looking to claim back £000's from the Abbey alone!!! Fingers crossed!!!
Made it - 15 years married!! Finally!! xx:beer:

Seriously considering sending letter about reclaiming charges (v scary though!) from HSBC, though I'm a bit worried about them closing my accounts with them. I could probably get help to cover my overdraft, but what about my 7k loan - could that be in danger? I would be in serious trouble then.

Very nervous still about going ahead, but getting courage from everyone else!

    Hi all,

I'd like help with claiming back assorted charges from First Direct. I got into a mess following a multiple bereavement, the account was closed, & I have been paying back £40 per month since Nov 2003 (plus any windfalls) towards the debt of about £3,600 (now under £2,000).

Now I find I may be able to get some of the charges for 'Overdraft Fee', 'Excess Overdraft Fee', 'Overdraft Arrangement Fee' etc back!! Fab if i can as I'm an impoverished mature student...

BUT : will the fact that i entered a voluntary agreement so as not to affect my credit rating adversely (ie scared of banks!) mean I can only claim for charges before the date the agreement took force?

ALSO : can i claim for the debit interest each month or just the fees/one offs?

REVENGE : can they get their own back on me by blacklisting me/threatening my status? I'd be able to pay off the rest (effectively with 'their' money!) if they called in the remaining sum, & have another account now. i am so angry that they got so nasty so fast when i'd been an exemplary customer for years.

I'm new to all this & a bit of a technobimbo, so would love to know what i should do next. I've just been through all my statements & letters & have noted the charges, so am ready to start!

They shouldn't, as it is a totally separate credit agreement, as long as you haven't fallen behind with payments.
