Right then i have prepared 3 letters to MBNA for different accounts. I know they have taken out late charges from my account before so hopefully it will be a nice ammount.
I have an AMEX card with £2900 on and i know they charged me a late fee 2 months ago for being a day late as my DD left the bank late. Will a sensible phone call resolve this or do i have 2 send a letter? Also do they have the right to close my account if i send the letter and demand the money back off them as i can not afford to pay back the £2900 all at once.
I will wait anxiously for the reply from MBNA.
The clock is ticking.Ty Rees

how can it be worth getting a new account that for the sake of £430 charges (mine for 4 years not got other 2 years data) but have to pay of around £1500 worth of debts as result of account closure and probably lose debit card as new bank probably wouldnt give to someone unemployed.
Also opening new accounts isnt as trivial as you think, my sisters husband took him 9 months to get a bank account because of no photoid, he eventually got one when he got his provisional drivers licence. This is of course a very basic account no overdraft facilities and no visa card.
From what I read on CAG Lloyds seem pretty tough to deal with often allowing courts proceedings to go ahead and then offering settlement for clauses, they seem to eventually give in after a long haul but all the people winning are just closing their accounts so I cant see if people are using their accounts normally afterwards.0 -

Clydesdale have said this to a lot of people, if you look on the Bank Action Group forums there are some threads discussing this.0 -

Recorded delivery is useless unless someone actually signs for the letter.
The Halifax are (now) notorious for not signing and the Post Office wash their hands if that is the case.
Just get a (free) Proof of Posting slip and continue with your schedule of a letter every 14 days.
I did that with my second claim
They ignored the normal correspondance, including faxes and emails but they were really quick with the payment once I sued!0 -

Interesting! I didn't know you could send recorded and it may not be signed for.0 -
This is Money has previously reported on the massive implications for the banking industry if overdraft fee limits were introduced. Financial analysts estimate that the card ruling could cost the banking industry up to £1.5bn. They added that limits on overdraft fees could spell the end of free banking.
So its the poor and vulnerable who make the banks their profits then?0 -

There's a thread on CAG somewhere that outlines how useless this service is from the mouth of an ex Postal worker.
(Looking for it, may take a while).
If you have proof of posting it is reasonable (in court one has to assume ) that the letter will be delivered.0
