That's nowt. I called this morning to find out an address to send my first letter to and the happy chappie on the other end of the phone told me that if I instigated a complaint they'd "blacklist" me "with all the other banks making it virtually impossible to get bank accounts/credit in the future".
Which of course would be illegal (that would be passing a third party personal information about you without your consent). But then what do the banks care about the law - not a lot it would seem.
I wish my bank would say things like that to me.0 -

And in which case, you sue them again... One would hopw that sooner or later, they'll get the idea...:rolleyes:0 -

It basically says that fees are clearly stated and i should read the terms and conditions, and my claim is unenforceable.
Then tells me to basically go away, see the Financial Ombudsman as this is hsbc's final response in the matter.
There's a PDF of the reply here:

Is this one of them standard replies?
It sure is.0 -

So should I change the opening lines of the second letter...
"I am very disappointed that you have failed to respond to me letter of the [XXDATEXX]."
to something like...
"I am very disappointed in your response to my letter dated ...."0 -
Yes. No that they read the letters anyway...0

Needless to say I'm even more determined now!
And I bet you wish you had recorded this particular pearl of wisdom, hey?
It's BS, of course. But we do advise everyone to open another bank account first, just in case they do try to trash your credit rating and close your account.0 -
Hi
What constitutes unfair/illegal charges? Would the following count?
Unautherised o/d fee
Debit under advice
Unpaid cheque charge
I intend to make a claim. I played a sport for 5 years at international level, it's an unsponsored sport so my outgoings were often higher than my incomings. I'm proud to say - wouldn't have changed it for the world!
Think you're doing a marvellous job with this site. It's an education.

TSB - Depends how long ago was your account with them. Up to 6 years ago, np problems.
C/c: - Absolutely.
Account numbers: Subject Access Request under the Data Protection Act, enclose statutory £10 fee, give as much info as you can for them to trace, any names used, last address when account was closed, and previous addresses before that, DOB, anything you can think of.0
