It is measly. But Barclays have been doing this a lot, offering 1/2 in the hope of making you go away...

In fact, I got a letter this morning offering me just under 1/2 from them... Too late, they'd passed the deadline given by me, and I'd filed yesterday. Ah well... :D

Imagine the other way round. They sue you because you owe them, say 1 k. You turn round and say: "Well, look, I really don't want the hassle, so what say I give you 500 smackers and we'll call it quits? Huh, huh? Whaddyasay?"

What do you think their response would be?

YOU are suing THEM. Why on earth should you concede a penny?

In the end, of course, it has to be your decision. I know what mine is. ;)

I have recently sent off a preliminary letter to Barclaycard asking for details of my last 6 years charges etc. and just received back from them a letter saying that to supply me with these details will cost £10, is this legal?
Also prior to may 2004 are not held on computer so any statement from then will cost £3 each.
    What should I reply?

Do I stick with the local bank on my moneyclaim application, they are the ones I sent letters to?

I've just done the court thing to get my money out of the Halifax (£563.98) - plus an £80 court cost! I just hope it all goes as smoothly as other peoples cos' I too am getting a bit worried now.

Secondly, do you know how I take Intelligent Finance to court as they have also told me that they won't give me any money, but the address is in Scotland (Livingston) and the court procedure said it would get refused because of this. Where do I go now???

    Thanks

    Hi,
I was wondering if the same should apply to other business - I'm thinking specifically of NTL who currently charge me £1 per month for the 'privilege' of NOT signing up to a direct debit. Also, just today i got an automated 'courtesy call' to say that if a bill has not been paid within 30 days they will automatically add a £10 charge to the account.
Sounds purely punitive to me - but is there anything i can do about it?

    I WON WON!!!
I've just got home from work and waiting for me was a settlement letter from LloydsTSB for unfair bank charges including interest and court claim fees. The only stipulation is that I have a bank review and don't do this again in future. They stress that they are not in the wrong but that taking it to court will be too costly

    I'm so happy!!!!

Hi everyone, I have been chatting to SS about back claiming back bankcharges and what they mean, he explained and said we might be able to claim some of ours back but to ask you lot to clarify for me.

What it is is my OH has a standard bank account with yorkshire bank, he has no overdraft facilty on it, but if there is insuficunt finds in the account for a DD he gets put over drawn, the DD gets returned unpaid and they give him a £35 charge for the insuficunt funds. Would he be able to claim any of this back do you think?

    Thank you

    Hi iwanttosave,

That is exactly the sort of charges that everyone (including me) is claiming back.

If you check out the Consumeractiongroup site (link is in bookworms sig), all the letters and information is on there.
