Great news! Seems the lights have come back on in Manchester! Site is now up and running - or at least partly as trying to access forum produces a database error!0

Just think: You'd said goodbye to all that money anyway, hold on tight, a few more hours won't make any difference. (I know, I know, it's hard when you're chomping at the bit!)
a difference in time, no that won't make much difference, whats a few hours more, but the difference in my bank account, well that could certainly make a difference to my life if I was to get all my charges back, so yes they could close my account down, after they have paid me back, what is legally mine, I don't mind that, they can do it! I will just open a new account first!0 -

I am getting the same! But its worth the wait!:rotfl: I will be laughing all the way to my bank when I get this up and running!!!! Hopefully!0 -
Well I've juts posted my first letter and double checked my charges amounts - which included a few £1 charges for using their own ATM!!
I'm feeling quite empowered right now so going to have a coffee and some Tesco Finest triple choc cookies as a treat! (they were on offer!)
I'll post back anything as it happens, but the thought of over £3k coming back is awesome, it will clear my overdraft and pay off the Visa and leave me with enough spare to repair my poorly car! A big dent in my getting to be debt free!
thanks again to MSE and all here

Ah. Slight problem there. They CAN charge for using the ATM, that's a service they provide, and a service is lawful, and they can charge what they like. (That's why they're trying to say the bank charges are a service as their latest trick to defend the indefensible).
Not to worry, you can always alter the amount at a later date, especially at the issuing of court claim stage.0 -
This thread is massive now! Does anyone know of any banks that have imposed the OFT "fairer" charges on customers since the OFT report? (As opposed to being asked by the customer for a refund)0

Well, 1st, it's on credit cards only, and 2nd, they have until the 31st May to comply, so you can bet your socks they won't implement it any earlier than they have to, and more likely later if they can get away with it.0

Hi bookworm1363,
Thanks for all your advice - you are indeed a star! I've got a few days off work from wednesday so will be sending off my DPA request then - should this go to my branch or HO? I've decided to do my OHs account first because he has no overdraft but at one point for about 3 months he didn't get any of his dole money cos it was all paying off bank charges - just what you need when you're unemployed!!
Thanks again!! :T

Thank you for your kind words.
Due to the sudden influx of requests  , quite a few banks have set up a DPA dept to deal with them. If you check on the consumeractiongroup site, you should be able to find where to send yours. And so as to pre-empt your next step, when you send your letters requesting refunds, you can send it to your branch, they'll pass it on where needed.0
