    Guys,

Any help would be much appreciated here.
I was a bit stupid with money there and run up debt of £22,000 now a financial crowd advised me to get an IVA. I signed up and gave them about £1,100 and nothing was paid to companies. I cancelled the IVA as all the companies agrred to freeze interest. As far as I know the company did not listen to me and went ahead with the IVA proposal which was rejected. I should have researched this more.
I was told to cancel all my DD's and move my wages to somewhere else. In turn A&L closed my account. Five months later they ring me looking their £300 overdraft back so I have started to pay it back. They charged me a lot of fees before would it be in my interest to ask for the bank charges back problem is I have a credit card with them and they froze the interest.
Sorry this is a bit long but its my fault I got in debt and then the so called financial help completely screwed me and left me about two grand more in debt due to interest and not giving me the £1,100 I paid them back. I was desparate at the time so stupid but learnt a lesson. Any help much appreciated.
    Cheers

I 'borrowed' £10 from my wife's purse. We have an understanding that we will will always compensate each other (my wallet takes a similar hit on occasion!). I therefore transferred £10 from my own A&L current account to hers. On checking the A&L online (both her and my accounts are on the same login which is great but I know is against the rules for non joint accounts) I found that on the first day (Sat at a weekend) my account was showing no change but the £10 was in pending transactions which was understandable and fine by me. On checking late on the Sunday, my account was still showing no £10 debit but pending transactions was now empty. I therefore assumed that for some reason the transaction had failed and transferred the £10 again. It hadn't, and I incurred a £34 fee plus, later, a £25 one for going over my overdraft limit. All for a £10 transfer from one A&L account to another. I complained on the phone and was granted half the £34 back. I told the lady, who was most polite, that I would claim the remainder back via the small claims court. I wrote the first standard letter and 2 weeks later received a reply reimbersing me the full amount. It says 'I cannot accept that you have been unfairly charged as you suggest' and 'as yet the OFT have not entered into any discussions with the banking industry regarding current accounts'.
  • Hi

I have started court proceedings againsy HSBC and they have (through solicitors) asked for a breakdown of the charges we are claiming. I have at no point provided them with a scehdule of the charges (I recently read that if you use moneyclaim... you MUST do this, however it was too late and I have made 2 successful claims without doing this). Should I just ignore this letter, should i provide them with the schedule or what?

    Any thoughts very appreciated.

    Cheers.

Hi there, I'm about to send my first letter to my bank (Smile) but I have a couple of questions. Can you claim back charges from a bank account that you have already closed? I had an account with Natwest which I closed just over a year ago, could I claim back charges from them? Also, if you do get anything back is it paid into your account or do they send a cheque? Thank you!
    31/12/2006 £8395, 01/10/2008 £5089.73, 19/10/2010 £835.00 31/03/2011 £0.00
    Pigsback = £9.35 (£30 claimed), Quidco = £128.24 claimed

  • Yes you can claim back on a closed account and presumably they will send you a cheque if successful as your account has been closed.
  • ... and I wonder how many claims your average bank receives every week?
  • halifax charged and charged and charged me to the point i did not have the money ever to get my account in the clear so in the end they closed it anyway for being so overdrawn (without an overdraft) only o/drawn coz they insisted on charging me, then charging me coz no o/d, then charging me again coz it had gone over £50 o/d etc etc etc vicious circle...so they closed my account for me. Can i still try and re-claim my charges now they have closed my account for me?

However, my sister claimed about £2k back from HSBC and all was fine until about 2 months later and they got a letter advising them that they had 28 days to make alternative banking arrangments. Also, when she went into a branch to withdraw her savings they wouldn't let her have it all without paying off her overdraft too. She would have had to pay it off anyway obviously as the account was being closed but she said they were very rude with her.[/QUOTE]

This is typical HSBC they're horrible. I am in the process of moving my accounts have been with them for 10 unhappy years. Have sucessfully claimed back £1500 in charges from them and am now going for a further £2000 for an account that was closed last year (Wish me luck)!!

I wonder if someone could help with my query? I have a sole account and a joint account my sole account is O/D with no agreed limit and I've just paid the joint account O/D off. I have my salary going into my joint account and on reading above am worried that when my salary goes into my joint account they will use it to pay off O/D on sole account leaving me with no money to pay my mortgage. I am aware that they can transfer funds from sole account to sole account without your permission to pay off O/D's but can they if its going from joint to sole?? Does this make sense????!!

    Hope someone can help!
