Hi this is my first post on this site and i have a question about the six yr rule, can you claim back charges from further back than six yrs? The reason i ask is I had a business between 1991 and 1999 and i know my bank charges run into thousands is it possible to claim these charges back?

Six year in England and Wales, 5 years in Scotland.
Check out Martin's article and Penalty Charges also the CAG forums for the legalities0 -
After reading the threads here, I get the impression that Abbey are going to make things difficult for me to claim!
Anyway, I had a bank account with them which has been closed for two years now. I started a debt management plan, and have been paying them an installment each month to repay my overdraft. They've now assigned my debt to a debt collection agency, so I thought I'd try to reclaim my charges. I didn't do it before as I didn't want to jeopardise the arrangement.
I'm presuming that any money I manage to win, will be put towards my debt. Has anyone got any experience of this, either with Abbey or any other bank?DMP mutual support number 174Total debt now (April 10) £0! - total paid off £30,221 or 100%I'm now debt free after 6 years!!:jNon smoker since June 2006 :j0 -
Hi, I'm new so may have missed this.
My question: I have a share dealing account with TDWaterhouse. When I transfer money in (via debit card) its done instantly at no cost. When I transfer money out, TDW charge a £25 CHAPS fee. Is this a proportionate charge or not. The free alternative is a cheque which takes days.0 -
Hi all,
I have just posted the first letter to halifax to reclaim my charges but think i desperatly need another account in case they shut mine.
The problem is where do i go, to open a new one as i guess i would be classed as a problem which is why the charges are so high to start with ......
Can any one reccommend anywhere to go to
Thanks0 -

To all of you Newbies who are claiming bank charges back, have a look at this site http://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/
On there, there are sections on all the different banks and how to claim from them. There is step by step by step help, and template letters. The site is endorsed by Martin.0 -
I have nothing whatsoever to do with the CAG group, but have found that a lot of the questions are basically the same thing, and as there were a lot of questions by different people on the same thing I thought it would be useful if they had a look there, before their questions got quickly lost. If I have upset anyone, sorry, but if I have managed to help a couple of people who are worried, I feel that I will have been justified in putting the website there. Its is endorsed by Martin Lewis who set up this website.0

Hello out there angry bank users. Can anyone tell me if the repayment of charges is applicable to business accounts as well as personal? My business has been seriously held back after 9 years of Natwest theft!0
