HarriettPotter wrote:This year, for a range of reasons, I have accumulated £210 of charges from Nationwide. Its mainly because its an account used purely for bills and I have money coming in and out all over the place. I have to accept some responsibility as it is due to the money coming in after the other money has gone out that some of my direct debits have been returned.
I was prepared to handle it but yesterday they charged me £90 after 3 missed payments last month. If you look at the account you can see clearly that its a mismatch of dates/payments etc. Its not like the account is permanently empty (not that any of that is relevant I'm sure).
Anyway, I have been to the branch today and they said they do not deal with it at branch level but I should write to their head office in Swindon. I should write in my 'own words' as they look for 'key words' in the letter to decide whether to refund or not.
I was planning to just follow the steps indicated on Martins article and other related websites but I have to say I thought what the branch said was a bit cryptic?!!!
Well thats certainly a new tactic :rotfl: i have never heard so much rubbish. the only thing that will happen if you dont have a template letter is they will be more confident in palming you off with a feable excuse. Utter load of rubbish. the letters myself and other forums have wrote work stick with them.0 -
I will do and that was my hunch.. many thanks0

I phoned my bank yesterday and told them I believed the charges were unlawful. My bank manager phoned me today and told me they have recredited my account. RESULT.0

I want to pay of a loan (instead of continuing with monthly payments). Bank are asking me to pay settlement fee of circa £160. Would you say it is possible to challenge this fee using the same criteria as fees for overdrawn on a current account as per Martin's well publicised articles.
Thanks

hi, ok thats fine. they will make you an offer then before the months up, as for a witness this will be stupid attempt to scare you into accepting this offer.0
