Having been a customer for many years and a regular customer who overdraws with no problems. They have suddenly clamped down on my overdraft facility. I said I would get a loan to remove my overdraft and clear up credit card balance. They suggested their loan, saying if I accept their loan they wouldnt charge me bank charges against my overdraft. Having viewed this site and found a better loan, l refused RBS. Now my last two statements have charged me £40 and £30 respectively!!.
I am now changing my bank account and will follow Martins tips to get my money back.

  • I have just come back from my bank, I went to talk to them about the £30 excess fee that had put on my account yesterday, they also took out overdraft interest and account charge total £16.26 < that amount made me go over my overdraft of £800. The woman I spoke to said the £30 excess fee was because I went over my overdraft a few weeks back and has nothing to do with the £16.26 they took out yesterday which doesnt change anything really it was still taken out.
She said it was me that made myself get overdrawn and not the £16.26, of which I told her 'no I had £20 in my bank which I could take out this week and so I did, and then later on that day they took out the £16.26' which she said no that it would have been taken out first thing to which I replyed 'how was I then able to go to the cashpoint and take out?' £20. she said nothing.
Now I said that the £30 excess fee wasnt legal to which she said it was as it was I who made my account overdrawn. She then went on to ask if I wanted a £3000 loan to pay of a major bill and pay the overdraft off at £25 a month for 5 years which I said no to as my major bill will be gone in under 2 years time. So because of the charges this wek i now have £17.45 in my account till next Wednesday. i'm a single mum of 2 kids and dont work so Im surprised that she even offered me the loan.
I dont know where to go from here, maybe find a sugar daddy to pay off my account ?
Any1 got any advise please ?

  • What about unfair charges from other financial institutions. I am just about to pay £30 to cancel an insurance policy that runs out in 35 days. I have to cancel as otherwise my no claims bonus cannot be transferred to my new insurance. I am sure it does not cost £30 to cancel this, any letter writing is completely unnecessary. Especially when you have to give so much personal information to speak to someone about your policy anyway!
    Thoughts?
    James.

1/ provide details of the account in repect of which it is alleged charges have been made.
2/ set out the legal basis for his claim that the charges are unfair and unjust.
3/set out a full breakdown of the way in which the sum claimed has been calculated including the date on which each charge was applied to his account and the sum on each occasion.
sorry but im a bit of a layman and dont seem to understand what i have to do next,
can some one please help me out here
    thanks Andy

does this apply to mortgage charges also?

Couple of years back I had problems paying my mortgage, they really screwed me with charges, it would be lovely to get them back.

  • I closed my Barclays account after 25yrs, due to excessive bank charges (I know, it took me some time). I switched banks in Nov 2004. Would I still be entitled to claim unfair charges against Barclays for the time I was with them?
