Hi! I am a newbie here and was just wondering if anyone else had encountered this?! I have decided to start to make a claim for bank charges we have made over the last 6 years as it must be well over £1000. I emailed the bank and asked them to send me details of this thinking they would be able to print off a list of charges made. Well, no, it wasn't that simple! Firstly I got the same letter 3 days running telling me they were sorry for the delay but the only way they could do it was to pull off my statements for the last 6 years! A couple of days later I came home to find 103 statements had been posted through my door in separate envelopes (I am sure the postman must have been swearing!!), then the next day there was another 60 statements! We now need to go through each one and highlight the charges!! Does anyone else find this totally ridiculous? Firstly, the environmental problem of so much paper, secondly, surely in this day and age they would be able to pull charges info off the computer? Is this the usual way of doing it? It seems crazy!!!!!
Thanks in advance

shaun1977 : "as far as closing accounts down, that has been and gone, the oft warned them to stop."
I was very pleased to read this, because I am about to claim fees back from Alliance & Leicester, but when/if they close my account, it will cause a lot of inconvenience. Apart from the excessive fees for a brief dip into OD, and apart from their recent unbelievable letter offering me 25 pence off the fees in the cause of goodwill, I have found them fairly reliable and convenient.
Might you be kind enough to suggest a form of words I could put in my letter to remind them about the OFT's warning?0 -

Hi, i would be happy to do this at the correct time, the oft havent actually made any rules regarding this just a warning not to, however it would in my opinion do more harm than good to raise the matter now. no accounts (to my knowledge) have been closed since the oft statment and if they were to do so then they would have to give 30 days notice. then a and only then woul it be advisable to bring the matter to their attention, in other words dont fix what isnt broken.0
