I'm not sure whether this is a charge or a service, my bank are asking for a sum of £250 to redeem a small mortgage of £10,000 is this fair or legal?0

The Nationwide sent me a letter saying that the charges were in the terms and conditions of the account. Can I still persue a claim?0

I think it would be to your benefit to read the faqs in B.A.G. because if you are going to persue this it would be wise for you to know what your rights are and certain laws , like the one above.Wish I could stop editing EVERY post I make :mad:0 -
Just an update to say Barclays sent my cheque for £29.52 today! Result!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0

Hi I need help!
Wrote to Halifax few weeks ago sending the standard letter re. Data Protection Act asking for list of all charges/wording used etc. and this morning they've sent a list in a completely unreadable format- called an Investors Account Report - listing direct debits/standings orders I've set up, some cheques I've written etc. There are a few charges listed but it's not clear whether they've taken the money from me or reversed the decision - plus there are no proper dates on any of this information - just eg. 23.2 but no year. Are they just taking the p***? Do I now write back asking for my statements or what? Has anyone else had this from the their bank? :mad:0 -

This is not the same thing as the penalty charges debate.
This charge is for releasing the charge on your property and returning the deeds to you - that the bank has been holding on your behalf.
It is therefore a charge for a service, and although it is a rip off, it is no worse than 'arrangement fees' or 'valuation fees' which are used more and more to improve the profitability of mortgages and keep the advertised APR low.
R.Smile, it makes people wonder what you have been up to.

miss_angie1 v LloydsTSB
I've just received the standard response from Lloyds TSB today saying that I agreed to the terms of bank charges etc.... so will not refund the charges (£371) and that if I am not happy with the decision to complain to the Financial Ombusdman. I'm about to pay a visit to bankactionforum to write my second letter before action. Watch this space......My mantra is "Never pay full price!"0 -
