Hi,
I have recently been charged £23.50 for a missed payment by a Web hosting company. This would be fine if i was made aware my card details had expired and needed to update them. They only brough these charges in last month and emailed everyone to tell them. I didnt receive this as they had an old email address for me, they also sent me a reminder that my payment details were about to expire to this old email address. Therefore i never got any reminders. The first i knew was when i logged into the Website and got a popup telling me. Upon seeing this i immediately updated them and paid the missed payment.
Where do i stand with this? I wasnt aware of the charges and the company made no attempt to contact me via phone or post. All they did was send an "email" for which i'm being charged £23.50 "Administraation charge". I questioned it and they said the charge is the same for everyone..... even though my monthly subscription is a mear £8.40!!!!!!!!!!!
Any advice would be appreciated.

tenuissent wrote:I have read the FAQs but still have a question. Two of the £25 charges were for the "service" of honouring cheques that I had written before going into the 6 day overdraft, which turned up during it. Is this a service I should expect to pay for and can't claim back?
I still think they are disproportionate.
Honouring cheques is, in a sense (tenuously!) a service you have requested, but the cost to the bank is nil. Had they bunced them you could claim, so I'd include these for definite.

If you go over to https://www.consumeractiongroup.co.uk/forum/natwest-bank/ you will see what to do and what to expect from NatWest. They do the same to everybody, but always pay up in the end. Give it a go!
Not entirely true. They did allow one such case to go to court last year, and they won it, based on the fact that the charges were for an additional service and not a penalty.
They haven't tried it since though, and I believe that they know they were lucky to get away with such an audacious defence.
Just so you are aware - IT IS possible to lose. Costs were not awarded to either party.0 -

Ask them for a breakdown and an invoice.
It has to be a true reflection of costs - or it becomes a penalty, which is unenforcable at law.
Be aware though, they could very well close your hosting agreement with them if you end up suing them. You have to weigh up the pros and cons.0 -
In the article it says you will get the £30 court fee back. Does this mean you will get more than £30 in charges back from the bank or that the bank and/or the court will refund the fee?

You will get your court fees back as well as your charges, plus any interest at 8% APR if you have started legal proceedings and have claimed the interest under s.69 of the County Courts Act.0

hhobba wrote:Hi there. I am a student banking with Natwest. I purchased an item using Direct Debit from PayPal for £4.50 on the 22nd Feb, and the charge was not debited until the 28th Feb. During this time my funds became insufficient for this £4.50, although I did attempt to remedy this by being transferred £25.00 from a friend's account which I thought would only take 1 day. This £25.00 came into my bank on the same day that my £4.50 PayPal was taken out, although apparantely the £25.00 did not count as part of my balance since it has to be at least 1 working day in advance to count. So I was still "insufficient" for the £4.50.
I have been charged £38.00 in total (I think that includes the £4.50) for this.
Since I am in Scotland, can I contest this? Can someone point me to a piece of legal document which I can read to Natwest on the telephone so they are perfectly aware of what I am saying? Even the name of a document I can reference.
Any help is SO much appreciated. Thanks!!!
The £38 does not include your £4.50.[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0
