update my OH loves it and all my children have said they liked it and my youngest son (his nearly 8) said that was the best pudding his had

I'm not trying to have a go at you here, or belittle your attempts at producing a "budget menu" but I do worry that a lot of what you're claiming is very misleading to others who are also trying to trim their budgets and want to try and match what you claim to achieve. I can't see how it's possible to adequately feed your family on the quantities you've given.
I know it's none of my business but I think to cut back to the extremes you have cannot be healthy for either you or your children. For example, you list one carrot and one loaf of bread for a whole week to feed three of you :eek: ... I usually allow one carrot per person per meal (unless they're huge ones) and that's not including the 2-3 carrots a day my DS snacks on! They're not exactly expensive items of food
I could possibly understand it if you had no choice but to compromise to this level - some people have to if they're heavily in debt - but you claim to do this so you can "afford to buy a DVD player, go on holiday and have all the nice things in life", which to be honest I find a little hard to comprehend. I don't want to come over as holier than though, as I'm far from it, but my childrens' diets are far more important to me than material possessions and holidays, and I would sacrifice anything to ensure they were receiving an adequate and healthy diet.
Someone commented that "at least your kids will have memories of nice things instead of eating expensive food when they grow up" which I found rather sad, because with such a limited diet as this they might not grow up healthy enough to even reflect back on their earlier life. I know that might sound harsh but I'm afraid it's a fact, and as Gillian McKeith says (not that I'm a great fan of hers par se) ... Goodmorning everybody. It's raining here.
Well this is my menu planner that I promised. I know you all have been waiting in anticipation.
Ok...I budget on $300 a month for food. I got this figure from writing everything I spent last year on food (after MSE) and see what we could realistically get it down too without comprising our health. I have cut down on other things, I make my own laundry powder/ use vinegar etc for cleaning. So at the start of the month I withdraw $300 from my bank account and that's it then. I write a monthly menu planner (the form I download from Organized Home.com) and away I go. I am flexible though. If I write down I'm buying a piece of corn meat this week & they are having a fantastic special on beef/chick/lamb etc I ditch the corn meat and go for the other. I won't bother pricing everything as it will mean nothing to you. But at the end of the month $300 has been spent. If any is left, I carry it over for pantry stockers that are on special.
Breakfasts: We always have weetbix or muesli type cereal in summer/porridge in winter. Wholemeal toast or grain toast with marmalade, coffee.:drool: Weekends we may extend to scrambled eggs/ poached eggs with grilled tomato. Cooked brekky. Rare though as I'm not a morning person. Fruit is also put on top of cereal.
Lunches: Mostly sandwiches made with grain/wholemeal bread. DH takes packed lunches, fruit, banana cake etc. Water & flask. DD comes home for lunch and also has a sandwich/fruit/drink. I sometimes have soup or if there is any leftovers from tea that DH or DD hasn't snavvled.
Snacks: Fruit, HM baking, crackers with toppings, chocolate:shhh:
Monday: CQ Roast Chicken, roast pot, pump, corn on cob, beans, carrots,
brussell sprouts, gravy
Dessert: Low Fat Icecream & grated fresh pineapple
Tuesday: Apple Meatloaf, mashed pot, pump, peas, carrots, broccoli &
yellow baby squash.
Dessert: LF Icecream & HM fruit salad
Wednesday: (Ash Wed) Fish Cakes, HM wedges, salad & mayonaise
Dessert: Boiled rice with fruit salad
Thursday: Chicken (leftover) & Broccoli Bake, Mixed veg with pasta & garlic
& olive oil dressing, zucchini's
Friday: (Lent) Spinach Pie, Potato Bake, corn, beans,carrots & b sprouts
Dessert: Rice (leftover) with apricots
Saturday: HM Pizza
Dessert: Lemon Cheesecake
Sunday: Spag Bolg (leftover in freezer) with w/meal spaghetti
Dessert: L Cheesecake (if any left)
PS: The roast chicken I can get 3 meals out of. So more meat is in freezer for next week. Spinach Pie I can usually take a couple of slices and place in freezer for emergency meals if needed. The same with the fish cakes. If I'm in a rush one day I just use up what I've got and we have a smorgsboard.
I was given a heap of lemons & limes, hence the cheesecake. But that's ok......I love cheesecakes.Don't worry about the world coming to an end today. It's already tomorrow in Australia.0 -

Get a Bero book. There's details on Bero flour packets, or I seem to remember a thread saying Morrisons sell them.
The recipes in there are really easy to follow, and there's some nice things to make.Here I go again on my own....0 -

I got a Bero cook book last week from Morrisons. Delightful recipes - shame I am not stick thin or I would have a go at a lot of them. I think the book was between a pound and one twenty - I forget.Grocery Challenge £139/240 until 31/01
