I sometimes put home-popped pop-corn in lunch boxes.I toss a little parmesan cheese or pizza seasoning in it.

Pop corn is great and contains fiber too. I would never have thought of putting Parmesan on pop corn. I'm going to try that, it sounds nice.

Just popped back on to this thread! Just want to thank BS again for posting - wonder if she wishes she hadn't now on reading the above? We all have our own favourites/priorites/non-negotiables etc. I'm sure most readers take what they want from each menu planner - no need to criticise the bits you don't like - it's personal taste and circumstances. Cheers, BS. Good luck to you!!!!

whats about small bags of twiglets , there yummy , ideal for lunch boxes. and low in calories.

i tried to make the fruit cobbler twice today. but i think i used cup to big for the bowl was gonna cook it in, as it stayed gloopy in middle. then the second one the fruit made it soggy. but i wont give up. it smelt yummy. i will try it again and i will make it work. such a simple recipe . only took 5 sec's. the longest bit was draining the tin of fruit.

Thanks BS for your recipes - pleeease keep them coming - I love seeing what other people put in their meal planners. I don't do one often which is why I spend too much on food - but will be taking more than a few leafs(sp) out of your book for sure. My kids are soo fussy - even puddings - I'll just have to eat their share mmmmm.

    Thanks again for your inspiration.

Thought I'd throw in my meal plan for this week as there is so much interest!

Saturday - chicken fajitas with salad and coleslaw
Sunday - roast lamb shoulder, yorkshire pud, roast potatoes, carrots, cauliflower and savoy cabbage (all steamed veg)
Monday - tuna pasta bake and salad
Tuesday -chicken casserole, new potatoes, carrots, broccoli, savoy cabbage (again steamed)
Wednesday (tonight)- lamb hotpot (from sunday roast) plus carrots, swede and cauliflower
Thursday - Aldi pepperoni pizza with garlic bread and coleslaw (I'm going running so I gave DH an easy option, though he is an excellent cook in his own right)
Friday -grilled fish, potatoes and whatever veg is left/frozen veg if no fresh.

Breakfast for me is varied. I like porridge made with 1/2 milk 1/2 apple juice and a few raisins (no need to add extra sugar), toast with mashed banana, toast with marmite and a yoghurt, toasted muffin etc etc. I'm not fond of cereals though.
I usually have either HM soup or a salad for lunch. DH has a packed lunch with a sandwich, crisps and loads of fruit. DS has packed lunch of sandwich, crisps, h/m cake and an appleor carrot sticks. Most of our meals are OS being made from scratch (except the pizza this week) and we eat lots of fruit and veg. We don't often have puddings.

I like to do a meal plan because it gives me a focus at the end of the day. If I've already decided what we are having then I just get on with it. If I don't plan I find I get to the end of the day, can't be bothered and resort to easily prepared junk like ready made kievs etc.
I like to live in cloud cuckoo land :hello:
  • Big thank you to BS for posting this, and I'm gutted that you're getting a hard time for it.
Re lunchbox questions - I make cheese straws for my girls - plain flour, 1/2 amount fat, same amout cheese (eg 6oz flour, 3oz fat, 3oz cheese), and they go down well. Every day they get a carb choice (sandwich or pitta), protein (sausage / cheese / cheese straws), veg choice, fruit choice, treat choice, and fruit juice. Seems to work, and gives them 3 of their 5 fruit & veg, which takes the pressure off supper time!
