Oh my gosh, they are lovely. I have a huge stash of fabric but no space in the kitchen to get to my sewing machine (its covered in candles) but this looks like something I can do sat in front of the TV, just knitting strips of fabric, looks fab to me!
If anyone has any jelly rolls or charm packs, this will be a great way to use them."The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0 -
Hi Sarah, how would you go about joining in new strips of material? or is it a case of just how you would normal knitting when joining in a new ball???
The bags are totally gorgeous arent they... I love pretty girly colours pinks mint greens baby blues.0 -
If you can get hold of the book 'Fast knits, fat needles' by Sally Harding (you can often pick them up on ebay for a few pounds, or ask a local library to order it in for you) there's a pattern for a lovely knitted 'scrap' bag. She uses taffeta in various shades and it looks gorgeous, but I'm sure you could use cottons etc. It's not a massive book, but it's good for accessories etc, particularly if you've not been knitting long. The instructions are really comprehensive too.
edit: Just had a look at mine, and the bag's not exactly like the one in the ebay link. It's still nice though

and 5.5 inches in length, its taken a piece
of fabric 45 inches wide by 40 inches long.
its going to take a fair bit of fabric to
make a bag

Not sure, I'd either just knot them or sew them in big long strips on the machine first. Have a practise with some yucky material see which is more effective.
Those colours do look so lovely, reminded me of a jelly roll I've seen."The great pleasure of a dog is that you may make a fool of yourself with him and not only will he not scold you, but he will make a fool of himself too."- Samuel Butler0 -
This is one I crocheted out of odd bits of wool but the principle is the same with rags... just cut into long thin strips.

This isn't what you were thinking of, but interesting all the same......................and probably a LOT easier for those of us that can't knit or crochet! :rotfl::rotfl:I;m sure I saw something a while back about either knitting or crocheting plastic carrier bags ...........making them into proper shopping bags..........wish I could remember where I saw it.
I quite fancy having a go at this and making gift bags! :jHonorary Northern Bird bestowed by AnselmI'm a Board Guide and volunteer to help get your forum questions answered and keep the forum running smoothly on Special Occasions, Green/Ethical, Motoring/Overseas/UK Travel & Flood boards, it's not part of my role to deal with reportable posts. Are these the ones you're thinking about? - I was well on my way to make these little babies when OH took my carefully gathered collection of plastic bags to be recycled because there were so many of them! ARGH!!! I KNOW he meant well but it took me AGES to collect them! :rolleyes:DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!
