Thanks Mercy, I tried the Malt loaf yesterday and it was yummy! I'm going to make another one today to last me during the week. There are times when I don't want a full meal but just something with a cup of tea, so this is ideal and so easy to make.Weight loss 0/2st

Hi
Murphydog, your kitty is lovelyThey bring smiles when you didn't expect them and that is priceless!
Thanks for nice comments about my poem, it really is them being their lovely selves. I feel blessed and - yes - happy :rotfl:
Glad the fruit n nut loaf is getting some attention, it's good and easily adapted to your needs.
Durham-mim glad you can use it for your snacks. May be well to sub in some ground almonds for flax if you find it a bit OTT on fibre. Do keep in airtight container after full cooling as it can get quite 'crusty'. I like that though :rotfl: But not to all tastes
I have chicken drumsticks in a tasty oven bag (my own flavours not shop bought) and will be making Farmyard Stew (beef heart, lambs kidney and chicken liver casserole) in a bit. Made one the other week and it was lovely. Has onions, carrot and mushroom in too. Really nice as a warm luch at work with salad. Nothing but protein and veg. YUM!
Big happy Sunday!

Hello low carbers,
Please could you tell me whether the coconut oil you use for sweet making is the same as what is at the end of creamed coconut blocks? I think somebody mentioned "coconut bombs" so am wondering how hard these set compared to using other fat sources. I have plenty of the blocks so would save money using them for the oil, if it is suitable?
Thanks.0 -
I guess it may be if your blocks have separated and you can see a paler line. Otherwise no, coconut oil and coconut cream are not the same.
Coconut water is the liquid contained within the coconut that just pours out leaving the white 'meat'. Coconut milk is made by squeezing the grated meat - which can then be steeped in water and squeezed again for thin milk. Coconut cream is essentially the milk with less water content as it's the bit that floats to the top. Coconut butter is made from the meat (like with peanut or nut butters, it's made by grinding the dried, grated coconut meat until the oil starts coming out and binding it together). Coconut oil is just the oil and can be made by cold pressing (in which case it still smells of coconut) or by harsher methods which result in cheaper oil that doesn't smell of coconut.
Coconut oil sets hard during most of the year in the UK and definitely in the fridge. Coconut cream in block form sets hard because the remove as much water as possible.
You could use the blocks of cream but the point of the bombs is that they're very low carb and using the coconut cream would increase the carb count. Would still be yummy thoughEat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Hi dannie! Welcome to this nice place!
I think that you could use the yellower end as coconut oil. It won't be pure coconut oil but as it is what you have I'd use that. It'll do the same. (more carbs but use what you have and in the mean time get a good coconut oil)
The bits you cut off - well. Maybe use them in lowcarb puddings as a half n half for butter/cream etc. Would likely be nice. Put in fridge for a bit to (using hot knife) make good slice.
I hope you like it here, good to get new folk
PS read my cat poem if you want to get to know me better quickly - just 8 or so above :rotfl:
You don't have to like it to be well welcome here :T

Hi, yes the end of coconut cream is oil and also I sometimes use coconut creaam in sweet recipes instead of the oil. It gives sweets a more coconutty flavour but the texture is a bit grainier. Would probably work well in coconut bombs but you might want to try them the 'proper' way first.0

I thought it was just renamed when the EU banned milk being used for anything that wasn't from a mammal.
I use Tiana or perfectly pure coconut oil, costs fifteen pound a tub.Life is short, smile while you still have teeth0 -

It's a common misconception but no, the water is the clear liquid that you get when you break a coconut open - assuming it's young enough to still contain some.Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan
