I thought that water and milk were the same thing daska?

I thought it was just renamed when the EU banned milk being used for anything that wasn't from a mammal.

I use Tiana or perfectly pure coconut oil, costs fifteen pound a tub.

£15 ?? How big is the tub?

I pay £7-£8 for Pure Organic Coconoil (500g)

    Hello folks,

Thanks for your replies and welcome.

Yes, my creamed coconut blocks do have just the oil on the end; about 15gr. In the past, I have melted the whole block and used it for miscellaneous uses. Today, however, I've tested just the coconut oil in a recipe to see how hard it sets (so far looks like marble). My recipe was a variation on this threads "coconut bomb" recipe so tomorrow will try them.

(Read the cat poem, Mercy. Bet your cat pals enjoy salmon).

    Thanks.
  • Hi, quick questions, can you eat carrots on a low carb diet?

What about mayo? Is it considered 'free' to eat?

carrots - depends on how low you want to go :D e.g. on atkins they're not a permitted food until you get to stage 3

mayo - bring it on (but unless you make your own check the carbs on the label as some places add loads of sugar - co-op is a primary offender, hellmans is OK)
Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants - Michael Pollan

Not sure how low I need to go I just need to lose weight, about 2 stone of it :o I have tried slimming world but got bored with it, I love meat and mayo and cheeses and veges but not a fan of yogurts or fruit, too much sugar makes my gums bleed

Been buying Aldi mayo, very MSE:money:

Are tomatos ok? I love these, and cucmber?

Now for the serious question, alcohol. I'm sure this has been my downfall, as I then eat crisps with a glass or can :o

Apart from going to alkies anonymous, can I drink perhaps a vodka and diet coke or is that banned too? :(

welshmoneylover - how about a vodka and soda with a little squeeze of lime? Soda is carb free so that's a good option.

Have to admit I started with no alcohol, then had the occasional whisky and soda, then migrated back to white wine, oops :o

But it hasn't really affected me luckily. I think it's because I've kept on 20g carbs per day (excluding alcohol) for the last few months, so I can get away with a couple of glasses of wine (say 4g to 5g carb a glass) and still be quite low carb overall.

    That's my excuse anyway!!

I tried 'coconoil' a few years ago but it was rancid.
Got my money back but can't make myself shop there again.

I suspect from the questions you're asking that you've not read a huge amount about eating low-carb. If you're looking to lose weight then TBH you're on to a loser if you start off by not knowing which foods to choose or wanting to find ways to cheat. So I would strongly suggest doing a bit of reading up. While there is plenty of info on the web it's probably easiest to start with Atkins, the site provides a huge amount of basic information with food lists etc. and copies of Atkins are often available in charity shops or try your local library.

If you find that piques your interest then depending on what your bent is you could try watching this lecture by Chris Gardner http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=eREuZEdMAVo
or delve into Jimmy Moore's site at

or for a real science kick get hold of The Art and Science of Low Carbohydrate Living: An Expert Guide to Making the Life-Saving Benefits of Carbohydrate Restriction Sustainable and Enjoyable

Low Carb isn't difficult in principle but you stand more chance of successfully changing the way you eat if you get informed. And, above all, remember that if you do this short term and then go back to eating the way you have been then the weight will almost certainly return. Most of us on here plan to eat this way for the rest of our lives because we find we feel healthier and look better as a result.

    Best of luck
