naijapower wrote: »Does anyone here import from China to resell in UK. Would like share thoughts and experiences.
I would love to, but usually I would have to import way too much to be of any use to me. I would love to order some lipbalm tubes, as they have some really funky designs and they are dead cheap, but I have no space to store 30 thousand of them.
I do order wool for knitting from a chinese lady on ebay though and she is very nice and friendly. But thats not for resale, just for me. If I want to sell anything I knitted with that wool, I would have to get it tested, to make sure the colours used to dye the wool are actually safe and adhere to EU standards.
It depends on where you order from and what you order. You will have to think about safety regulations and import taxes (there is no way I can smuggle 30k of lipbalm tubes past the HM Revenue), insurance and traceabilty. What may be legal in China may not be legal here and if it is something like toys, you will need to get a safety certificate. Also if anything is wrong with the product, will you be informed of any re-calls ? It would very hard to read the local TS Re-call site, if they even have something like that in China.
To make life easier, I would look at the US to import from. At least safety is much less of a risk and there is no language barrier.0 -
Fantasy - another knitter! I thought I was the only one...a dying art, they say. I buy my wool on ebay also but usually second hand as it is much cheaper. I went to a second hand shop yesterday and found one skein of lovely soft bobbly wool for 25p! I ahve already knitted it up (it was very thick) into a cute hat for my best friend in NZ for xmas. Cheap present and only took around two hours!
I wish I had more time to knit. It iso relaxing. i learnyt from my mum and now the mantle has been passed to me to knit for the whole family.0 -
Eeek - I have just read some letters which came home from school to say that both my children have been placed on the gifted, talented and able register...:)
My son for English (this is his second year on the register - he is 10) and my daughter for english and maths (she is 7 and this is her first year on it - they don't test them before this)
I am so proud and quite happy to show off my wonderful kids. it is just nice to know that you are doing something right as a parent and that they are thriving at school. What more could we ask as parents. it is lovely.0 -
congrats on the tallented kids NZ, i dint know they had one of them, better get working on noah eh?!back to comping in 2017, fingers crossed :beer:0

I'm home! Well actually I was home HOURS ago - good food show was CARP!!! It was probably about half the size it was last time I went
I know it's a credit crunch and all that but wow... no point in going to that till it gets a little more exciting - certainly not at those prices!
I did get an EasiYo though so going to play with that and a gorgeous wooden vase type thing - hard to explain but it's like an urn or vase turned in an imperfect piece of wood so the grain makes a gorgeous shaped hole in it in the side and loads of character
Anyway - I'm chuffed with it
Importing from China... be VERY VERY careful - customs were actually at the good food show (go figure!) and I was chatting to the lady there about some very good fakes they had on show - and being a nosey person asked how they spotted the fakes - they looked as good as the real thing to me! And she pointed out that the D&G bag I was looking at aren't made in China - so when they check containers from China and it's full of D&G etc they know it's fake
She explained a lot about the materials etc not being up to EU standards either so if you're not careful you can end up sat with a load of stock that you have no way to legally sell...DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Afternoon Everyone...
Crikey I had to go back to page 108 to catch up on everything!
Welcome to all the newbies...
Hope everyone who's poorly / not feeling too good is on the mend!
Horace - Happy Birthday!! and thank you for pointing fantasy_dreams in my direction - I've tapped her quick reply today
Happy Birthday for those whose birthday it is tomorrow!!
Well I've been mega busy, as some of you know (and someone was asking earlier on, on one of the pages) I'm a Training & Development Manager and have just taken on a 12 month contract, 1 month in and I'm really enjoying it - it's a good challenge!
I'm still building up the site slowly and once I'm into a routine, i'm going to go all guns blazing in the new year!
Being back in work is fantastic - I'm loving it but it also makes you focus on what you want..and having been seriously ill (and lucky to be here) at the beginning of this year it does put everything into perspective.
Hope everyone's having a great weekend and I'll be along again soon (hopefully wont be away too long next time)
Take care all!

Thanks for the birthday wishes..Happy Birthday to MrsT and Monkey:D
The weekend break was pretty good, I didnt open my cards til yesterday. Visited my parents yesterday and mum gave me a frame so that I can frame the birthday card she made for me (I am honoured because she has never made me card before:cool:) - its 3D decoupage of a view from an open window, she varnished the windowpanes to make them look like glass and used something called flower soft to highlight the trees and some of the plants, there is a tiny 3D butterfly and a cat sleeping on the window sill - she is really clever. Had words with dad about him driving - he really isnt safe and as he is getting older he is becoming more thoughtless, he put on a bit of a show in that he went and built the bird table that mum had bought in the summer whilst I was there. Mum is in great pain because she broke her foot last year and did nowt about it so the bone has healed and has formed a calluss on the sole of her foot so each step is painful - she refuses to go to the doctor because he will arrange for her to have an operation and she will be in plaster:rolleyes: Had to go shopping for my ex husband too (we are good friends) and had to get cupasoups - he came down with gastric flu yesterday and when I left him today he was wearing 3 fleece jackets, one sweatshirt, had the gas fire on high and had wrapped himself in a thick sleeping bag and he was still shivering.
Well done on the talented kids Megs.
JP - thankfully for them I don't know your outlaws. I think its his behavour recently that has given you these panic attacks..I hope you manage to put him out of your life - nasty, spiteful little creature.
Mabel hope you are feeling a little brighter.
TCM - hope you had a peaceful weekend without old tarts and OH.
Snow - I thought that you and Fantasy would work well together.0 -

Hi Horace, glad you had a good birthday weekend :-) I'm feeling a bit better thanks, think the anti depressants could be kicking in.
Hope everyone else is doing well.0 -
Belated happy birthday Horace and happy birthday Monkey and Mrs Tine.
I really need to get my head in work mode. Just had a lovely bloke phone up for an appointment for his girlfriend only I couldn't book her in on a Saturday until January. I really should have squeezed. Afraid I just didn't have my head on work. I must remember to think work, work, work when I answer the phone - that's the problem with not having a separate work phone!
Oh well, live and learn I guess xx0
