Holly, I got this reply from 192.com, so I'll be faxing the form off to them over the weekend.

    Dear Sir / Madam

    Thank you for your email,

    The data sources used on our website www.192.com are as follows;

    • The UK Electoral Roll (2002,2003,2004 and 2005) The OSIS database (full listing of UK telephone numbers, not including ex directory) Business and Director Reports (provided by Dun&Bradstreet) Business Listings (provided by Thomson)
    • Land Registry data (© Crown copyright material is reproduced with the permission of Land Registry.)

All this information is available in the public domain. The nature of the source and the volume of data dictate how we deal with removals. Individual’s data eg name, home address and telephone number (if not ex directory) will be given if listed on the UK Electoral Roll, OSIS database or as a director or listed executive of a company.

    Electoral Roll

By law your local authority has to make the electoral register available for anyone to look at. The register is held at the local electoral registration office and some public buildings, such as libraries.

Until recently, any company, organisation or person could buy a copy of the register. The government has now changed the law so that every individual has some choice about who can buy details of your name and address. Under the changes there are now two versions of the register: the full version and the edited version. When you complete your electoral registration form each October you will be able to choose whether you want your details included on the edited register.

The full register has the names and addresses of everyone registered to vote. Anyone can look at it, but copies can only be supplied for certain purposes, such as elections and law enforcement. Credit reference agencies are also allowed to use the full register, but only to check your name and address if you are applying for credit and to help prevent money laundering.
This means that we no longer have access to the complete electoral roll for use on our products.

We have always offered to remove individual’s details from the Electoral Roll upon completion of a CO1 form. Available at http://www.192.com/downloads/C01.pdf

    OSIS (telephone numbers)

We are unable to remove telephone numbers as we receive a daily update direct from OSIS. If we remove the record it will reappear unless the record is removed at source. To remove a record the individual needs to contact their telecoms provider and request to go ex directory.

    Regards

If you fax the form to 192.com it is a premium rate line at £1.50 per minute!

To ring b4usearch is £1.50 per minute and may take 5 minutes

  • I found most of my family on that site. I also looked up a couple of well known public figures and they are on there as well. Scary.

    Best Regards,
    Pascal, Manager B4U Media Plc

So if you are going to mail for removal of your details, maybe put 'RE Pascal/Manager' in the subject of your mail?

Pascal does exist - even if he is a little confused. Apparently he is too new to know where they got my data from, and his boss is too busy to be bothered with what is commerically sensitive information. I am to feel free to write to their solicitor who has standard template letters to deal with these things. Nice.

I shall instead focus my attentions on which celebrity to stalk......

  • Could also be useful with ebay scammers- your usually able to get their name and location simply. So if they try and run off with your money after paying then a simple search could find them. Can never be too careful if trading on ebay
  • Wow - just looked up a random list of Celebs - found the addresses for every single one of them! I bet they don't realise their details are so easy to find.

I Googled it and it came up with the address of the site but it keeps saying that the page cannot be displayed. Would it have been shut down?

    no.Unfortunately this is legal.
  • Hi

Can you tell me how up to date the persons details on this site are?

Thanks very much this is the type of site I have been looking for! I have just traced a person who owes me money through the small claims court and hasnt paid me a penny. I have a matter of months before the court closed the case as I this person moved with no fowarding address and all other 'legal ways' of finding them have failed. Once I have confirmed they still live there I can now submit the info and claim back my thousands! Also is it worth buying credits on the 192.com website for the further info (the courts may need his financial details)?

Thanks so much it was just by chance I came across this today!!!!

I am not very pleased though to think my details are so readily available but I will request them to be re-moved. However the site has served my purpose!

    Hi

I'm still listed at my old address and not at my new one. I lived there from March 2003 to December 2004, so somewhere between those dates (assuming entire database updated at same time).
