Have you read Allen Carr's Easy Way To Stop Smoking? My sister (thirty a day) quit straight after she read the book - she hasn't touched a fag for three years. In true MSE spirit you could get the book from the library.
Also, your local GP will likely be running smoking cessation clinics. You can get the patches/gum on prescription now.

This booked worked for me after smoking 20 a day for 10 years. I stopped smoking and read the book at the same tine / as I went along (no patches, no gum). The psychology and logic of the book did it for me.

    I have been a non-smoker for 2 years now.

    Hi Everyone,

Sorry I wasn't around yesterday for update ... couple of times I've thought "I'm dying for a fag" but resisted.

Today back to work after the weekend. My worst time is in the car, so I've got a big stack of orbit and plenty of TOGdem on the radio in the morning to keep me going.

Managed to now successfully cope with boiler playing up, dishwasher packing in, job interview preparation, row with OH, DD1 using house phone to call a mobile, spider in a bunch of banana's (another story!) from Colombia  , and then the normal wear and tear of the day ..... still not had one, and still going cold turkey.

Loving everyone's stories and it sounds as if you're all doing really well :T :j :T . Let's keep it up!! I'm well proud of you!

Ha - I didn't think I'd really save money as I always used to buy my fags duty free, down-side is I've now got 8 x 200 boxes left .... ummm, am I allowed to sell these but not for profit, but something tells me that's illegal.... I guess the ethical thing would be to burn them but that's £160!!!

Anyway, to end, well done everyone again xx

Uh-oh...Day started OK but got worse. Had to take patch off - the itching was too much to take.

Craving like mad tonight, but NOT GIVING IN!!! The Nicotine Dragon can b****r off :rotfl: I am a NON-SMOKER!!

Taking a pointer from Ozzyfan on the lozenges tomorrow....

Ahhh..feel better for that little rant.

Well done everyone...I can't let the gang down :o

Still haven't fallen off the wagon, but has been hard today.

For some reason am soooo picky hungry today and am already over my WW points (will go for a run tomorrow to try and make up).

Still having all those "ahh, think I'll just go for a fag" moments, before I have to stop myself.

    How's everyone else doing?

ceebeeby...well done for getting through a hard day.

I'm not a smoker and you may feel like binning my comments off cos of that!!?

But I just wanted to say that giving up smoking & dieting at the same time is an incredibly awesome task to take on!

I don't want to discourage you at all, far from it but I wanted to say that giving up the smoking will be so much better for you than if you eat a little bit more. So don't give in to the weed but you can be forgiven I am sure if you give in to a healthier snack to keep you going!

Well done, I hope tomorrow is better for you.

    hi,
I started trying to quit last year. I was surprised how easy it was at first on a day to day basis. But whenever I went to the pub for a drink I would cave in. I would cram in probably twice as many fags as I would normally smoke in a day my lungs would feel rotten the next day! I then got an inhalator, it worked really well I would have it in my hand for all of a night out it was brilliant for a while! I find as my mates smoke I'm tempted and I now allow myself a few rollies when I go out, which isn't all that often since I am now a money saver, and also don't live near town anymore so bars aren't so convienient! I would definately recommend an inhalator to anyone who has the predicament of liking a smoke with a beer. I have stopped beating myself up over a few rollies once every week or 2, and will fully stop when the smoking ban comes in! good luck to all the quitters out there. Funny thing was I wasn't 35 pounds richer a week when I gave up the marlboro lights!
