Similar experience as others with Empire and LXDirect i.e. credit card debited with amounts in excess of that authorised at time of purchase and suppliers unwilling to rectify.
Local Trading Standards Enforcement dept. have copies of my transaction screen shots and are investigating breaches of the "distance selling regulations" etc.0 -
They're as bad as each other, Nick.
Now why do I feel a MSE boycott coming on ... ?
What really pi**es me off is that they (LXDirect) blatently said they made mistake and will take full money and I cant do nothing about it >:(. Even my banks refuse to investigate. Another example of a big company getting away with anything.
I for one have stopped shopping at LXDirect even though they have many products that I would like to buy.
It may make no difference to them if I stop buying but I'm not giving them a single penny more.
I would have changed my bank there and then if I had felt that another bank would have taken my side - but the fact is, no banks care.
A very disappointed Nick.something missing0 -
Nick-A that doesn't sound right. Your bank won't investigate - I'd talk to Trading Standards about LX & Bank.
Credit Card co just confirmed The Store only took £2.95 from A/c so well pleased. If anyone wants copies of my paperwork ie confirmation emails and debit note advice please pm me.0 -
Just a suggestion if anyone wants to purchase more stuff from Empire and you have a discount code that you are relying on to bring the cost down, charge the items to your account and dont pay immedaitely, so if they dont give the discount then you can always send the goods back and they cannot touch your bank acount.0

My complaint to Belfast Trading Standards about Empire Stores overcharging and changing prices on their website as now been passed over to Yorskhire (Empire HQ based there) Trading Standards for further investigationThe Daily Mail

i have made a similar purchase from The store priced at 0.00 for some helmets paying just 2.95 for 5 helmet sets ;D
I then received this:
We are pleased to inform you that the goods shown below are now ready to be despatched from our warehouse and should be delivered shortly.
Item No Catalogue No Colour Size Description

27 ST0712 HELMET SET

and now this :
Thank you for your payment as detailed below. This has been credited to your account.
Payment date Value
07/12/04 £2.95
they best not charge me in full for them0 -
just got home and they have been left with the neighbour
charged only the 2.95
thats the neice/nephews sorted for new helmets ;D0 -
I would check with your credit card provider that you have been charged 2.95...the store said my store account (even though i didnt open one, i paid by credit card) would have 199.95 plus 2.95 postage for 5 cameras...cant complain if they are free...but assured that ive been charged 2.95 but will have to wait for my account statement...do i trust them...NO...but we shall see
one thing i have to make clear is that the price in the statement you get with the parcel and the email mean nothing to the store....theyll charge you what ever they fell like....but perhaps my view will change when my statement appears..even though i didnt open an accountStevie Coppell's record breaking blue and white royal army - championship winners 2005-60 -
Dear BBC Watchdog,
I would like to draw your attention to an underhand and possibly illegal sales ploy by The Store.com and Empire......etc
Yours sincerely
Irate/ripped off from Lincs!!!
What do people think - shall we start a petition and show Redcats the true meaning of buying power!!!?0 -
I was requested to re-order the cameras after Empire denied all knowledge of my order despite sending them a copy of it for £0.00 plus £2.95 postage.
Of course I declined to re-order as i knew it would be at the full price of £35 each.
Empire make up their own rules as they go along, and are best avoided in future.0
