Extra Leg Room on Flight

j-bean60, arguments over the rights and wrongs of paying for emergency exits notwithstanding, if you're planning to take Valium or other drugs that could affect your alertness on board I would suggest you would not be fit to perform the necessary actions expected of someone sitting in an emergency exit seat. Please think about whether you'd be able to react appropriately in an emergency situation before booking.0

I don't see how it can possibly be considered 'out of order'. As far as I'm concerned you pay for a seat on the plane. If you want an extra service you should pay extra for it; if you don't want the service you don't pay. Under the 'old' system those who didn't care subsidised benefits for people like you, whereas now those who want it are asked to pay for it. Perfectly fair and reasonable in my book.
So then you (or I) arrive at check 2-3 hours prior to departure, you ask for something you don't expect to have to pay extra when someone else can get it "FREE", when someone else can turn up 1 hour prior to departure and get it free as happend in my explanation, but you obviously didn't grasp that bit :mad::mad:
what ever happened to "First come first serve"
isn't that the idea of this forum "Martin's Money Saving" usually in these circumstances you have to be quick to get what ever you want, not leave it till the last minute etc
I suppose we should pay extra when people complain about our knees being in someone's back because we where not allocated legroom seats
I suppose you think its fair now to pay "extra" for meals, again until a few years ago this was included in the price of your ticket/flight/holiday or is Perfectly fair and reasonable in your book or is it the fault of "tall or fat or hungry people":mad::mad:
I hope I'm sat in front of you on a flight one day, with my knees stuck in your back, maybe your attitude would change then
or are you just a wind up merchant really0 -
All I can really add to this discussion is that the only airline I have flown with where I was offered exit row seats was BA on a domestic flight to Jersey. My ex husband and myself checked in early just so that we wouldn't be rushing around at the last minute (which is how I usually travel). The check-in staff requested that my husband be seated in the next to the exit door because of his obvious physical strength. They even asked what his job was and when he said, they made the seat allocation definate. Then they asked if I had any qualifications that would warrant me sitting next to him and at the time, I was a first aider, so I was 'allowed' to sit with him.
The thing is that I would have been more than happy to sit apart for such a short flight because at the end of the day, the safety of all the passengers is paramount and I appreciate that they took the time and consideration to make such a balanced judgement.0 -

Simple fact of economics: if someone wants something, he/she will pay for it. If it's left over at the end and no one's come forward to pay, then you don't lose anything by giving it away.what ever happened to "First come first serve"I suppose we should pay extra when people complain about our knees being in someone's back because we where not allocated legroom seatsI suppose you think its fair now to pay "extra" for meals, again until a few years ago this was included in the price of your ticket/flight/holiday or is Perfectly fair and reasonable in your book or is it the fault of "tall or fat or hungry people"0 -

If you are taking a valium before the flight then you shouldn't be sitting in the emergency seats anyway. They are for people who are able to assist if the plane were to encounter difficulties if you are groggy from the drug you would be a liability in an emergency situation.£100 - £10,0000

perhaps, we should have sections on planes, fat sit here , thin here, tall here, gay here, ethnic minorities here, and then charge depending how much room they expect to want. comfort, health and safety disregarded.
otherwise i would expect to have the same quality and space around me prorata, as a 'normal size' person.
and we shouldnt have to put upwith what we get, or nothing would progress, and we would all probably be standing up on planes cramed in like the proverbial.0 -

I agree with the Fat part - and possibly Gay - Cant do with some overtly Camp 6 stone wet lady boy 'accidentally' rubbing my leg during the flight.0 -

If I could actively request a gay male passenger seated next to me, I probably would! Mind you, I work in travel and it goes with the territory.
Strange as it may seem, the Canadian government actually passed a law last year allowing very obese passengers to not be penalised for taking up two regular aircraft seats.
