I just wanted to echo my opinions on the above.
I wish all aircraft would not make their seats in economy class able to recline. I absolutely hate it when the passenger in front does this. To passengers who recline their seats- Does it really make that much difference in your comfort to recline your seat 3 inches nearer into my cramped encroached space ? If you want comfort buy a business class seat ??

Yes, it does make a lot of difference to my comfort.

Obviously it is appropriate to recline at some times, and not at others. I would expect seats to be upright during meal service, and at other times would recline gently in case the person behind me was using a computer or something. However, it makes sense to recline during an overnight flight in order to maximise chances of sleep.

I beg to differ and think it is a very selfish act. It is very difficult for me to sleep on a plane anyhow and if I did recline my seat a few inches into another passengers space-It would not make any difference or make my flight more comfy.
Again to re-iterate if you want comfort on a flight-Pay for it !!

I will always recline my seat when I want to sleep or relax - that's what they're designed to do. I would also expect the person in front of me to do the same. If I (or they) don't like that, I either put up with it or pay for a seat with more room. It's a fact of life that on planes the seats recline and we all have to put up with that.
The concept of not reclining a seat on a long-haul flight is, in my opinion, absurd.
If you want to sit in a seat for many hours and not try to relax and / sleep by lying back as far as possible, good for you.
I am not a selfish person and take offence that you might think me so.
However, if I fly Economy, then I expect and pay for that amount of space - including reclining seats!
I am the General Manager of an hotel in Telford and am happy to offer advice. I can't promise to be perfect, but I'm happy to try to help.
