Extra Leg Room on Flight
Comments

I'm 6ft1,have a bad back, bad neck and a bad shoulder. I dont campaign for extra leg room but what i will tell you is that i pay attention to where i sit because i plan for an emergency and whoever is in that extra leg room seat had better also pay attention becuase if we have a survivable impact,i will be at that door quick smart and if they havent got it open,i will boot them out of the way to save myself and others.
I suspect that those who like to sit near the door dont always appreciate the responsibility it carries.0 -

I honestly think concession ought to be given to tall people. It is most unfair and even unsafe to expect a six footer to squeeze into the small row of seat. Any impact could cripple them easily apart from the discomfort and stress throughout the flight.
I am tempted to ask - why make the rows tiny when we are not in China or Japan. On the average, we have more bigger men and women in this day (no thanks to food), hence these planes should be designed with more leg room0 -
Completely agree. OH is 6'6" tall and often can't physically sit down in the seats without his knees digging into the seat in front. Then the person in front will decide they want to recline their seat :rolleyes:3-6 Month Emergency Fund #14: £9000 / £10,0000

beacause we are all after a bargain, and the cheapest seats which means packing more seat into a plane, there fore less leg room. i know what you mean about not being able to actaully sit in a seat, few yers ago on a flight to menorca, the leg room was so small i could sit down, the length from my bum to my knee was longer that the leg room! i got moved grudgingly by the stewards.0

And would it be fair to make similar concessions to fat people? Give everyone who is bigger (in whatever way) than average a better seat? Fat people are told to pay for two seats if they need them, and tall people should be told to pay for the seats with extra leg room, whether in an exit row or in business class.0 -
The problem is, because I'm claustrophobic, I need the aisle seat!
You could ask not to be seated directly adjacent to each other... Check-in staff always struggle to put families together who want it and it might actually help them out if you offered to be one behind the other or one on each side of the aisle in the same row...0 -
Hi
I've just spoken to the travel agent, who contacted Thomsons. Their age limit has recently been reduced to 14 years of age.omelette451 wrote: »The cabin crew and ground staff could get in serious trouble if they allow people to sit in the emergency exit seats if they're under the age limit specified in company policy. It comes under safety regulations, not to mention the company's insurance policy. Better to put him in an aisle seat where for the most part he'll be able to stretch his legs a bit.
It's very rare that ground staff are reprimanded for seating the wrong type of person in an exit seat. I know because it's happened to me plenty of times when I as cabin crew had to move people because they had been allocated an exit seat when they shouldn't have been. As J-Bean said earlier Thomsons policy is now 14 years of age, so the only problem should be pre-booking the seats. Also for anyone interested, you are not permitted to sit in an exit seat with any UK airline, if you fall into any of the following categories;
Child (Under a certain age depening on airline policy 14 or 16 years)
Obese (If you need to use a seatbelt extension)
Disabled (As this could impede other passengers)
Pregnant, or a prisoner
Infant (Under 2 years of age seated on a lap) or Infirm
Elderly (i.e Frail)
This may sound discriminatory but this is in the best interests of all the passengers on board.Mum to 2 cheeky little monkeys!Usborne Books at Home Organiser0 -
I have a real problem with all this extra charging for sitting together and extra legroom etc. Perhaps if you want extra legroom and you've no good reason other than you just fancy it you shuold be charged, but having to pay just so you can sit together (when you would have done anyway unless you turn up really late to check in or the check in staff haven't been trained properly) is just not on if you ask me!
I got extra legroom/emergency a couple of years ago, purely because they mustn't have started doing the charging and they were allocated on check in. They actually asked us if we wanted it not vice versa. When we got on the plane we were asked if we would swap seats with 2 young ladies (also emergency exits) as they were too scared of flying to sit apart. They had been allocated each an aisle seat so across the aisle from each other rather than right next to. I didn't mind swapping but the crew seemed oblivious to the fact that 2 girls so scared of flying they couldn't beacross an aisle should not be in seats where you have to be prepared to help in an emergency!!
