    hey there my fellow incubators!
Sorry i never made it back on after saying i would catch up and post! I had a bit of a stressful Friday. I had had a load of stomach pains while on holiday which i'd put down to a bit of delhi-belly but was still getting them quite badly when i got back so mentioned it to the midwife at my appointment on Wednesday, it wasn't my normal midwife and I found her to be really rude and dismissive and she made me feel like I was making a big fuss over nothing, when I was still getting the pains on Friday morning I decided to go see the duty GP at my surgery and see what they said.
I went in and the doc took a urine sample, had a prod about on my belly and then referred me for an interim scan at the local hospital.
The hospital were great and the lady scanned me on her lunchbreak as otherwise i'd have had to wait till April 1st for a scan, the baby is fine and is spot on for dates so all is good but i'm still getting stomach pains and we've no idea why...
So i've decided to have a day at home today hope my tum settles down soon...

On the upside i felt the baby move for the first time on Saturday night and then again on Sunday and again this morning, so that's made me loads happier...

Glamazon- thankyou for worrying about me!
Skintchick- I hope you took today off, it sounds like you needed it after the stress of the bleeding.
Searching - i hate Ray Quinn...i've hated him ever since he was first on telly, his stupid little plastic face just makes me angry

I'm sure there's lots i've forgotton and I just cant' even try to catch up now..sorry! I'm back and raring to chat though!

  • thanks for the link to the medela feeding thingy sami, ive never seen or heard of anything like that before, ive bookmarked it in case i may need it. i managed to produce enough milk to feed jackson but only just - he was constantly hungry and i couldnt get a drop out when expressing, i would have loved to have been able to increase my milk supply.
i used the medela haberman feeder when i had to wean him from breast to bottle and it was brilliant, i had tried every bottle on the market and he wouldnt have any except the haberman.

Just popped on to say hello before I go on my holidays this afternoon

Hope everybody and their bumps are keeping well.

Just wanted to add for those experiencing bleeding, that brown blood is only your body clearing out from the previous bleed, its not actually a new bleed and can happen days or hours after the red blood has gone iyswim.

Also make sure to keep your feet off the ground while bleeding or following a bleed as this has really worked for me during this pregnancy, I have a low lying placenta, now diagnosed as placenta previa and have been told to expect bleeding again. Doesn't stop it being really scary though

Haven't read back much (haven't had chance, Eloise is permanently hungry today)

but Durham here is a growth chart for a breastfed baby (girl) http://www.who.int/childgrowth/standards/cht_wfa_girls_p_0_6.pdf, how is she doing if you plot her weight on that?

H/V been & weighed dd, but she has only gained 1oz since friday, so still 2 ozs from birth weight, so if no improvement by wednesday, wants me to supplement her breastfeed with a bottle aswell. Not really wanting to go down this route, as have b/f fine before with no probs.any advice

1oz in 4 days is still a pretty good amount really... Did the HV watch a feed and check your positioning? Sometimes poor positioning can mean baby is only getting the let down milk and not much more which could contribute to slow weight gain... Otherwise, find what's available to you support wise locally and check them out... I would be inclined to avoid formula top ups if possible too... One thing you could try is breast compression, detailed instruction from Dr Jack Newman here... It is a great tool to try with slow feeders and sleepy babies too... Durham, does your baby wake often for feeds? If you find she sleeps for long periods you can wake her and feed her after a couple of hours... Feeding on demand works both ways.. ;)

Embarrasing question. Does anyone know what I can do to stop snoring? It wasn't a problem pre-pregnancy, but its really disturbing OH!

    Hi all,

haven't caught up, so hugs all round to whoever would like one!;)

    Advice on nappy bins please?:D

How tightly fitting would you say this needs to be, it's for soaking the terry square nappies with the nappisan in. Does it need to be totally airtight IYSWIM?

Weezl, it doesn't need to be air tight, just as long as the lid fits on... I assume by using nappysan you'll be wet pailing? The biggest problem I found with this was slopping wet nappies from the bucket to the washer and water going everywhere... Eventually I changed to dry pailing with tea tree and kept the bucket in the bathroom rather than the kitchen so once I'd sluiced the soiled ones I didn't have to traipse them downstairs... The tea tree works a treat for eliminating odours :)

Becky - I hope your bleeding stops and the scan goes well. It's so frightening isn't it? Try and relax (hard I know) and rest until your appointment. I'm not sure how far along you are? But hopefully the scan can reassure you. I found that a home doppler was great for my worried moments - I used it from about 17 weeks I think but it can be hard to find the heartbeat sometimes although the placental noise is easier to locate and just as reassuring.

Hypno - yes I'm at home, resting. Saw the GP this morning and he listened to the heartbeat, felt my tummy said all was fine, then told me off for sitting up using tummy muscles and said I had to stop it or I'll have 'a stomach like a paper bag'. :rotfl:

Am back to work tomorrow as my last day is March 31 and I have loads to do before then.

On the subject of reusable nappies, does anyone know whether this http://direct.tesco.com/q/R.205-5595.aspx is a good deal?

I used disposables for 1 and 2, but am thinking of giving reusables a go this time round. Are Kushies a reasonable make, or should I be looking for something different?
