defo eating & drinking enough.I'malso wanting to stick 2 just breast feeding,If i start bottles worried i will just swap totally.
My feeling is if she is feeding and not cranky or sleepy even for a newborn then surely she is fine, Chris only put on weight slowly for the first 2 or 3 months he dropped from birth weight on 25th percentile to being on the 9th pc but then he stayed on that until about 9mths old - he was just a slow grower and frankly I'd rather have my slim boy that actually wears his clothes out rather than out growing them that a huge tubby baby that weighs a tonne and looks like the michelin man!0 -
Becky's Leaf: this might sound really gross but when my kids are sicky, I put a beachtowel under them, and one over the top of their duvet too. Then if they do throw up in the night, usually I just need to whip the towels off and into the washing machine and replace with some clean towels, rather than strip and remake the whole bed. Also leave a plastic bucket by the sides of their beds! If they are in bed with me, I still do the towel trick, and as I usually wake up the second they start to retch, I just put the towel under their chins to catch anything which is coming, then shake any solids into the loo and again off into the wm with it!
With the bleeding, I had this on and off with my second pregnancy from about 10 weeks through to about 17, due to a slightly low lying placenta. It was scary at the time, but baby was absolutely fine, and is now 8!
Durham, not sure what to suggest. Is your midwife using the standard weight charts, which I understand are based on average weight gain for bottle fed babies, or is she looking at stats for bf ones? Bf ones do put on weight more slowly I believe. That being said, I think it is important to keep an eye on weight gain with bf babies and not just to assume that they aren't putting on weight as quickly just because they are being bf. I know this happened to a friend of mine, who ignored what the midwife was saying to start off with because she was determined to keep bf her second child (having done so successfully with the first), but it turned out that the reason no 2 wasn't putting on weight as she should was because she had cystic fibrosis. That's an extreme example of course, but there is sometimes good reason for midwifes to keep a close eye on these things, so don't automatically discount her advice!0 -
ta for that, just don't want to feel pressured in to giving her a bottle, just coz shes gaining slowly, I know if i swapped 1 bottle here and there i would just give up.0

thats my feeling on bottles too, as soon as I gave Chris a bottle that was the beginning of the end of BFing so I'm really gonna try hard to avoid them for at least a month. Not sure if you spotted that I'd edited my post with a possible compromise tho..

What on earth do you have 3litres for???
LOL! I use it in soap making (think 'natural' type soaps - all vegetable butters/ fats/ oils and herbal colourants & essential oils for fragrance. Added in a small percentage it improves lather of the bar of soap) I also have 100 kilos of coconut oil and 50 of palm oil - and about 30 liltres of pomace olive oil out there at the mo (not to mention the shea butter, cocoa butter, mango butter, etc etc etc - and I have low stocks at the mo!!)

That's exactly what I've been doing with redards to the towels. Save's alot of time & hassle in the middle of the night. Last night I could hear her tummy making noises & I was ready & waiting when she was sick shortly after. Bless her...She's zonked out now.Our 1st baby is due 29th December 2007! :rudolf:
I'm hopeful that this get's me out of cooking Christmas dinner!
Baby Ruby arrived after 55 hours of labour & an emergency c section on Christmas Day at 14.41 weighing 6lb 6oz...And yes I did get out of cooking Christmas dinner!!:rotfl:0 -

The other way to do it though is to top up with formula after every breast feed. That's what we were recommended to do with DS1, who was slow to start breastfeeding properly and had low blood sugar. I used to breast feed him until he came off the breast himself, then give him another few ounces of formula to make sure he had enough calories. Only needed to do it for about a week or so, then he went on to being completely breastfed.
Personally I found breastfeeding less of a hassle than bottlefeeding as I was too lazy to do all the bottle washing and sterilising, and remembering to pack enough bottles and milk for days out! So if you have breastfeeding established, and its always you getting up for the night feeds anyway, would the odd bottle top-up (if that's what's advised) really put you on the slippery slope?0 -
Greent that sounds like a small factory you're running there LOL
I have a tonne of bathbomb making stuff but I can never get them to form properly grrrrr they either have bubbles in or don't dissolve properly once I get them to stick together eventually. Don't suppose you make bathbombs and can tell me where I am going wrong? :rotfl:
If I had the space to make soaps and especially bath melts I'd be making them in a heartbeat!DFW Nerd #025DFW no more! Officially debt free 2017 - now joining the MFW's!

Nicki - good point but in the case of CF that should be picked up on the heal prickle test (well its one of the tests done here, I understand it differs else where) plus if she did have CF all that giving bottles would achieve is her getting less of the good things only in breast milk and still not gaining. (My best friend's sister has CF so I know a bit about it - far from an expert tho!!) children with CF are already prone to illness therefore BFing is even more beneficial to them
Its is my opinion that the reason for "poor weight gain" should be explored before suggesting supplementing with a bottle.
SB - I'm sure your JJ is just perfectjust not quite as perfect as my Chris
