    Two questions:

    1) What is the difference between the V4 adn V4+
    2) I will buy one of these for me and also one for my mum who lives at a different address. It is possible for me to somehow transfer my list ot my mum's or at least can I remotely programme her list?

    Thanks

    1) I think this is detailed on the there web site, although a little unclearly. From what I remember V4+ includes an external power supply which is required to keep time in the unit and also required for caller id. If you plan to use different providers at different times of the day (ie evening, weekends) then keeping time becomes important!

    2) Yes - it is done on this CWCLIENT software which is on there website. When you order you get sent a login/password. You can then setup the required operation of the unit. The only thing you will need to get your mum to do is to dial a code sequence on the phone which will force the dialler to ring the call centre and pick up the latest routing instructions.

I ordered a V4+ last week - They took a while to process my order and they don't seem to respond to emails - My V4+ is sitting in the Royal Mail sorting office for me to collect tomorrow!

Very unusual for Orchid not to respond to emails. They have always been very good and usually quick to answer.

They were quick to answer the phone when I rang them last week chasing my order up, but not emails at all.

Anyway I have my V4+ running and working and saving me money using Primus Saver 2 and 18185. :j

Just waiting for the phone call from BT to ask if I want to come back to them? I wonder what the response will be!

When i force the dialler home how much is the call per min and how many mins is it? - ive has a few probs with it and done it a lot recently but none appear on my up to the minute 18185 calls list which my orchid is st to route calls to at all times Are then therefore billed by BT???

Also does anyone get interference from it (radio background) - ive heard filters mentioned, but what are these and how much??

I also get the engaged sound when if i pick up the other digital phone if say my wifes on the other one - Does everyone get this?

either way i love the product!!

Assuming you have a BT line and Primus Saver Option 2 CPS, forcing the Orchid to dial home after 6pm or at the weekend should cost nothing.

If you have broadband, the Orchid has to be plugged in as if it was a telephone - using a broadband filter.

IIRC, DECT phones do that as standard (mine certainly do). You can transfer a call from one handset to another but not use two or more simultaneously.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

I've recently purchased the triple set of Ranger 400 and you can conference call with them.
What you need to do is start the telephone conversation, then press intercom and the handset # you want to include, (this will put the other party to the telephone conversation on hold - music). When the 2nd handset has picked up, press the # key and all 3 people will be talking. :T
  • I just have to say that I have found the customer service first rate from Orchid-Electronics. Very friendly, polite and quick.

Called them up on Thursday as I wanted to get the Money Saving Expert 20% discount and couldn't quite see how I did it through their web-site - very helpful lady explained how I had firstly register on their site and then order.

Ordered the V4+ on Thursday mid afternoon, delivered Saturday by registered post.

Called up on Monday to check if they had received my e-mail detailing my routing requirements - they apologised that the support e-mail address had received a lot of messages but if I e-mailed the person direct they'd do it there and then for me. Ten minutes later get an e-mail back saying all done and confirming a question I had asked.

My V4+ now fully updated and working with my routing requirements and I'm one happy customer.

If you're thinking of getting one of these devices then my experience has been wholly positive.

Don't get in a rush with excitement. I was with Just-Dial before TalkTalk acquired them when I requested for my account to be cancelled but kept receiving bills for 4 months afterwards despite 7-8 contacts through email and phone. Was extremely happy to get rid of them and go back to BT where at least there is someone you can understand on the other end of the line when you need something.
Do I want it? ......Do I need it? ......What would happen if I don't buy it??????
  • I am with Primus as my CPS but want to make an 0870 call tonight after 6pm - is BT still the cheapest for this time of day and, if so, how do I override Primus to connect via BT?

18185 is cheapest at the moment for evening 0870 calls (3p/minute as opposed to BT's 3.75p/minute) - see HERE.

It'll change (slightly) from 1st October though - see HERE.

If you don't have a 18185 account, dial a 1280 prefix to bypass your CPS and route the call via BT.
