No the Orchid does not interfere in any way whatsoever with ADSL, providing (like any phone) it's plugged into a microfilter.
If you switch to Primus you will still have to pay BT for line rental. The only way you can do this these days is by changing to BT's Option 1. Once you have done that contact BT Customer Service and ask then to put you om 'Whole Bill Direct Debit."

Thanks. I guess we're on whole bill at the moment, as direct debit is the only way we give BT any money. We're already on option 1. Do you know how long it's likely to take BT to get our payments down from calls + line (£22 per month) to line only?0
-
Whole bill by direct debit means you pay BT once every three months and you pay the whole bill at that point. This will be different every three months as you calls will vary. The whole bill can be paid by dd.
If you pay £22 per month, every month, you are on the monthly payment plan.
If you change over to Primus, you would ask to pay your whole bill by dd usually every quarter, but can be every month if you ask them.0 -
Slightly off thread? I have just ordered Dect400 phones with incorporated dialler and got the 20% discount as well. I phoned Orchid with a couple of silly queries and actually spoke to a human who knew his product, gave simple informed advice and actively encouraged me to contact again when `i received product to get the best from it?
Now that is what I call service - just hope the phones work okay? :money:0 -

Welcome to the MSE forums.
When your BT landline is working you will be tied to BT only for the line rental (for 12 months if it's a new installation or 3 months if it's a reconnection).
However, you are not bound to make any of your calls via BT for any period (or at all) so you can elect to CPS your calls immediately and/or join https://www.call1899.co.uk, https://www.18185.co.uk etc. too.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -

I have had reason to contact Orchid on a few occasions and I have to say that they have been extremely helpful EVERY time.
Keep up the good customer service Orchid:kisses:0 -

Thanks Heinz, have signed up for 1899,18185 etc and Primus. Glad to get rid of Telewest, with their rip off charges !0 -
Really considering going to the new Talk Talk package with free broadband (as I am fed up with BT having the monopoly).. As there is still a company that I could also use for cheap mobile calls will I still need my dialler box or will it be no use for me anymore?0

Just a quick note to say that I have set up my Orchid dialler v4 (Primus saver opt 2 combined with 18185), and having fluffed it up the first time (my fault entirely) I spoke to Orchid support.
Orchid's service was great. I got next day delivery of my dialler (super quick considering they preconfigured it free of charge!) and had my problems resolved as quick as a flash when I spoke to one of their support staff.
I hope their product matches their high standard of customer service, but that said I have little reason to doubt that it will!0 -

However, as seth points out below, access to prefix providers (1899, 18185 for example) may be barred if you pay line rental to anyone except BT.
That does not, of course, preclude use of dial-through providers (those which supply 0844 [etc] numbers which you dial before dialing your destinatioin number in full) from any landline, When using those though it is always wise to check and double check with your line rental supplier what they chgarge for such calls.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market.
