Heinz, I'd be interested to know why you have advised Snapelover to join up without the chance of a £8 reward for doing so?

If there are any pitfalls in this method please share you experiences/knowledge.

    Thanks.

I have to own up to an oversight on my part there (although that possibility is still flagged up in the link from my signature).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Found the Orchid Dialler thread - great info but does any body know if the 20% discount still applies as this thread is now quite old? Also can anybody tell me if it easy to program or not or do they do it for you??

    Many thanks

Welcome to the MSE forums Anna1.

The 20% discount was certainly still available last month (just mention MoneySavingExpert.com when you phone
    01536 443677 to order).

They will do the programming for you
(recommended) but the CW Client software, once you've got to grips with it, is not really as difficult to manage as it looks at first.

Because she had a BT line, Primus Saver Option 2 CPS, 1899, 18185 and 18866 accounts, I put together THIS for my daughter to e-mail to Orchid as her 'initial programming' requirements.

Heinz, you do post on here as an "expert", but in view of the second mistake on this page - this one and the advice to call Primus rather than use a cashback site, I hope you won't mind another correction.

There is no £2 to pay to set up an Orchid Dialler.

If you buy the V2 dialler, (all calls sent via one provider) then the dialler is just set up manually using your own phone to programme it. No cost is involved.

If you buy the V4 dialler Orchid will set it up to the customer's requirements free of charge so that no programming is necessary - only if Orchid are asked to subsequently alter the routing instructions is there a charge. You can alter the settings yourself either manually or via the free CW Client software and avoid paying them to do it, as you mention.

The details are on the Orchid site: http://www.orchid-electronics.com/free_set_up.htm

If you follow the link I posted you will see that is not the case now.

Anyone ordering now clearly does not get charged anything for the initial set up.

Phone Primus on 0800 036 0094 (tomorrow after 12 noon would be a good time).

They'll do everything and the change will take place in 2 to 3 weeks (there is no need for you to tell your existing CPS or BT).

Heinz is right, DON'T phone your existing CPS & tell them. I did this and they refused to transfer my number but we didn't know until yesterday. After great lengthy phone calls yesterday they (oneTel) are now going to release us  on 19th April but Primus aren't allowed to take over until 10th May, something to do with the law. Primus say they need two weeks notice of us being clear of existing CPS (OneTel) and a week just in case there are any hiccups. They have told us to call them on 19th and they will give us a special number  that we can use until we are signed over to them. Not sure how much phone calls will cost or what this is about but we have signed up to 1899 as well.

Lara, I think Primus are telling you porkies!

I'm not sure if your linerental is with OneTel as well but if it isn't then you simply just join Primus and they'll arrange with OneTel and do a straight forward swap. If you moved linerental to OneTel then you have to move back to BT for both linerental and calls (they'll only do both anyhow) and once you have your go live date for when your on BT then a day or two before this then just join Primus.

It does take about 2 to 3 weeks to change from one supplier to another so if you can move directly from OneTel to Primus (ie you don't have linerental with OneTel) then it will only take 2/3 weeks. Otherwise your looking at 2/3 weeks to transfer to BT and then another 2/3 weeks to transfer to Primus.

That's what Primus told us yesterday  . They sent a letter saying they had experienced difficulty in processing our registration details and would we contact them in the next 7 days. We did this immediately and that is when they told us OneTel wouldn't release the number. OH called OneTel and spoke to them and they said they would now release us on 19th April  . Our line rental is with BT. We signed up on 30th March. I'm really confused now!
