Having suggested to my daughter that she take advantage of the MSE 20% discount and get an Orchid V4 LCR to 'tame' her family's telephone use, I was looking for a list of 'recommended settings' for her to e-mail to Orchid as her 'Initial Programming Requirements'.

Not finding one, I had to come up with my own - taking into account that she has a BT landline, Pri
mus Saver Option 2 CPS (free E&W UK 01 & 02 calls), 1899, 18185 & 18866* accounts and FIVE children between 9 and 19 years of age. Yes, you're absolutely right, that last bit's not really relevant to the programming - but it was the reason the Orchid was needed! :kisses2:

Weekday daytime (8am to 6pm Monday to Friday) - 1899 prefix

This excellent post is the gold standard for dialler instructions - so many thanks Heinz and please keep it up to date with the latest / best it is a great service and that is why i think it is worth asking a few questions I had in trying to implement it:

you said:

When I put in those times I am told that the weekend start must be after the finish – I leave it at 08am Sat – 6pm Sunday (which is effectively the same) and it accepts it fine

Finally:
> 118xxx calls
I assume that the setting you use on the list is: 118*1*9 or is it NEW 118? or 118 translate - if you could give as much detail as poss that would be great

It is only for clarification as translating even from your clear summary, to the rather lists in CWclient is not always easy.

thanks again

1. Under 'Carrier', select a spare carrier and from the drop-down list select, "08000192190 - Free Dir Enq" (if necessary).

2. Now under 'Routing', select a spare routing line and from the drop-down list choose "118 - Translate Directory" as the routing code (this should have the "T" for translate attribute)....

3. then under each of three carrier times of day (daytime, evening & weekend) simply select the carrier you setup in step 1 for the free DQ enquiries.

4. To setup 192 for free DQ as well then follow step 2 and 3 again but this time select "192 - 192 Translation" instead of "118 - Translation Directory".

We have the following set up:

CPS Just Dial
01/02 numbers - peak - Call 1899
off peak - JustDial
0845 - peak - Dialaround
off peak - BT
0870 - peak - 18185
off peak - BT
Mobiles - peak Call1899
off peak - 18185

I have just received notification from Just Dial that they have been acquired by TalkTalk and will be in charge of our telephone service from 1st May.

From 1st May our plan will change to LeisureUKTalk with InternationalCaller Extra:

For just 99p a month we'll get:

Unlimited** evening and weekend calls to UK local landline numbers (starting 01 and 02)
Unlimited daytime, evening and weekend calls to over 2 million TalkTalk customers*
International rates from as little as 2p a minute
Access to customer services - via phone, website or email

Is this still our cheapest options?

Help would be appreciated

I'd urge you to consider the implications of the word 'local' in the above (you may consider that a change of CPS is a necessary consequence).
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Surely local as in 01 and 02 numbers would be adequate? What other local numbers would there be apart from those with 0845? And they are already taken care of.

Why have you got your dialler set to use 1899 for mobiles at peaktimes at 10p min when 18185 only charge 5p min?

By Local it means the exchange you are based in and the surrounding exchanges.Full details can be found in your BT Phonebook.

Not much good if you wanted to phone somewhere else in the UK eh!!!

Where as Primus Saver allows you to call any 01/02 exchange in the UK for free E&W.

So, I think it's time to change then. Right, can someone kindly give me a link to the Primus Saver website and I assume I just cancel with Just Dual. As BT own the landline but are not my CPS (that's Just Dial) do I have to inform BT of anything or not?

I'm not stupod and I can find info out for myself but do appreciate help from people who have already moved from one CPS to another as they know what they are talking about.

You will receive £8 from quidco if you join primus saver 2 through uswitch.

Go to quidco.co.uk and join up for free if your not already a member then enter "uswitch" (without the inverted commas) in the search box. click to enter Uswitch and then complete the analyser. You will come to a part of the process where you are required to click on a radio button, look for the one which mentions CPs services and you'll be brought to a list of carrier options were you should see Primus. click on the continue link and complete the application. From then on every thing is done by Primus other than cancelling your direct debit with JDS, you might like to leave this running so that they can collect the oustanding calls charges on change over and then cancel. You can do this online if you do your banking that way otherwise you'll probably need to inform your bank on the telephone or perhaps in writing. You do not have to inform BT or JDS, Primus will do it all by email, I think it takes about 15 days so if you've heard nothing by then get in touch with Primus 0800 036 0094

Hopefully your application through quidco will be tracked and in a few weeks time you'll receive a credit of £8 for your trouble.

Good Luck bonny lass

Phone Primus on 0800 036 0094 (tomorrow after 12 noon would be a good time).

They'll do everything and the change will take place in 2 to 3 weeks (there is no need for you to tell your existing CPS or BT).
