Orchid Dialler Discount

Personally, I'm quite pleased with Post #549 on Page 55.
Assuming you mean your post earlier, things have moved on at least twice since then, so your post is already out of date! For a while Discount Dial were doing 1p/min for UK mobiles, though they've now changed up to 2p/min at all times (same cost as 18185 for weekends, and 3p cheaper during the week)
So many thanks for your original post - I used it to setup my dialer initially - but unless Martin updates his article daily, we'll be missing out on the best deals...Jumbo

I was trying to come up with a 'generic' program for my daughter which would save considerable amounts of money but which would not need repeated alteration. Hence, I didn't specify any of the dial-through (0844) providers because they appeared to me to be the ones most likely to change.
OTOH, 1899's and 18185's prices have been quite stable lately and continuing to use them after a future price hike probably won't mean excessive expenditure (or a failed call as might be the case if an 0844 number is changed) - so reprogramming her Orchid will not be that urgent.Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.0 -
Hi there,
I have ordered and am waiting on the delivery for the Orchid V4+ and also an SMS enabled phone.
I am just trying to work out how I am going to setup the dialler for my needs and trying to get it straight in my mind before it all arrives.
I don’t know exactly how the dialler works but it appears very configurable.
I also don’t know how texts are sent through BT landlines.
I have rough idea of how I am going to set things up but here is one thing that is just bugging me at the moment...
My Question:
Are there any know issues concerning using the dialler setup for mobile calls and trying to send texts via BT?.
E.G
If the dialler is setup to route all mobile calls via 18185 for instance will this affect sending SMS messages through the same line. I dont know how the messages are sent, I would guess that the phone doesn't actually dial up as such but I notice there is a message centre number just like mobiles.
Has anyone any experience of this, any problems, solutions etc?
Would you use the message centre to route all messages via BT somehow?(1280)
Any help appreciated'If it's not broken, keep fixing it until it is'.0 -
123 (Speaking Clock)
Digit translate any call to 123 to 189901923287748 at all times (I'm not sure whether the time/time of day parameters in the 01/02 routing above would pick up the 01 leading digits of the destination number here so, to be on the safe side, I've included the 1899 prefix into the translation to ensure it's a 3p call at all times).- How much is a 'normal' call to 123?
- Is 01923287748 the geographic equivalent?
- How/where did you get this info?

...bought the Ranger 400 triple pack and got the full discount. If you need multiple phones, this pack is cheaper than buying a box for each phone.
The system setup using the CW Client is clunky and not exactly user-friendly but you get there in the end!
In use, once the setup is completed, it's brilliant! You get that warm & childish buzz of pleasure, of being one-up every time you hear the "Zero Pee per Minute" message.
Caller ID is effective and the warning light for BT Call Minder messages is a very welcome facility. We've lost count of the number of times we've picked up the phone to find a message that's been there for a couple of days because there's no visual cue! These phones make Call Minder useable and effectively gives the system a working answerphone capability.
Most chuffed!

People mention on this thread about forcing a call home and say "just dial ***12#4567890*3" (for V4's).
Reading the manuals it states:
"Lift Handset Dial * * * 1 2 # 4 5 6 7 8 9 0 * 3
Replace the handset immediately
Lift Handset
Press redial on your phone
Replace handset after last number has been dialled"
Why do you need to apply the above method of dialling twice? seems a bit hit and miss!
What is other peoples methods and does it work?

I place numbers above into my (cordless) handset (before dial tone) - then press "dial" on handset...listen to the dialling through the earpiece. As soon as it has finished dialling through I terminate the call and then replace handset on cradle. I then watch the red light flashing on the Orchid dialler and make sure there are at least a dozen flashes or so (ie the light flashes for at least 20 secs or so). This seems to work every time!0 -

Thank you very much, just needed a bit of reassurance as I have only just got the unit and as you know there is no screen or feedback to tell you that all is well.
I am still waiting on my login details so that I can use the software and setup properly.
I have actually used the same method you use and was slightly concerned because the flashes lasted around 15 seconds and the manual said 60-90. I guess there is not a lot of info on my routing table at the moment.'If it's not broken, keep fixing it until it is'.0
