The V4 dialler will keep your settings for about 2 mins max. When I was decorating, I just quickly plugged it into another extension, and that saved having to force dial home.

Can I just point out that these V4's are very hit-and-miss for both electronic pulse and rotary dial 'phones.

More often than not, the dialler can't seem to work out where to route the call, and you get a BT "number not recognised" recording. Sometimes it plain dials the wrong number.

Having just suggested to my daughter that she get an Orchid V4 to 'tame' her family's telephone use, I'm looking for a list of 'recommended settings' too.

She has a BT landline with Primus Saver Option 2 CPS and also has 1899, 18185 and 18866 accounts. I've suggested:

    0
    1/02 calls
Weekday evenings - 18:00 to 08:00 Monday to Friday - no routing (via CPS)
Weekends - 18:00 Friday to 08:00 Monday - no routing (via CPS)
    Weekday daytime - 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday - 1899 prefix

    070 calls
    Bar

    077, 078 & 079 (UK mobile) calls
    18185 prefix (via 18185.co.uk)

    0844, 0845, and 0871 calls
1280 prefix at all times (hop back onto BT)

    0870 calls
    18185 prefix 00:01 Monday to 23:59 Friday (via 18185)
1280 prefix 00:01 Saturday to 23:59 Sunday (hop back onto BT)

    09 calls
Bar (this may be unnecessary because Primus don't pass 09 calls anyway)

    128009 calls
    Bar
(this may be unnecessary because she could get BT to bar 09 calls [free] anyway)

    118xxx calls
Digit translate any call to any 118xxx number to 08000192190
Digit translate any call to 192 to 08000192190

    123 (Speaking Clock)
Digit translate any call to 123 to 189901923287748 at all times (I'm not sure whether the time/time of day parameters in the 01/02 routing above would pick up the 01 leading digits of the destination number here so, to be on the safe side, I've included the 1899 prefix into the translation to ensure it's a 3p call at all times).

    00 (international) calls
18185 prefix at all times (via 18185.co.uk)

    Anyone got any suggestions/comments?

    Thanks.

I cant find 128009 number on my routing table to bar these numbers.
Nearest one i can find is 1280#09 Translation
if i select that and then add a "b" routing will that work?
    While I breathe.... I hope

That's to stop my daughter's kids using the 1280 code to 'hop back onto' BT to make 09 (Premium Rate) calls.

As she has a BT line and is just using Primus (on which 09 calls are barred anyway) as her CPS, she can just phone 0800 800 150 and get BT to bar 09 calls from her line (free) and there'll be be no need for this '1280 09' bar.
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

What's to stop the kids dialling 121 then 1280 or even just plugging the phone into another extension to avoid the dialler?

Nothing. Hence the use of the line provider's (BT's) free Premium Rate call barring service as a backstop.

  • According to the blurb,
the V4 clock must be maintained either by the external PSU supplied with the V4Plus ... or by the line voltage in the case of our V4 dialler in order for the time of day routing functionality to work
So the V4 is OK as long as it is plugged in to the BT socket, but I'm not sure if that means that the V4Plus won't use the line voltage

BTW, has anyone figured out what access number to dial for the discount-dial mobile number yet?

My V4 went wrong last week, and I now have a V4Plus without the optional power supply and it works just fine from the phone line.

Well that sorts that out. Thanks

Is there a separate thread for the best rates for the various dialler options? I haven't found anything except Martin's guide.

No but, if you go back a few pages on this thread, you may find what you need.

Personally, I'm quite pleased with Post #549
