    One I forgot - 123

    123 ('Timeline' / Speaking Clock)
Digit translate any call to 123 to 189901314777676 at all times (I'm not sure whether the time/time of day parameters in the 01/02 routing would pick up the 01 leading digits of the destination number there so, to be on the safe side, I've included the 1899 prefix into the translation to ensure it's a 3p call at all times).

EDIT 9/3/07. I re-thought this over a year later and, because of the availability of free ways to check the time, decided to bar 123 on my own Ranger 400 DECT system. As a result, a 'Bar 123' line will be added to the recommended program ('the Heinz program') - probably as part of the 25/3/07 update.

Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • Can't remember the last time I ever used the speaking clock. I've become totally reliant on Internet Time Servers and GPS.

I did suggest that here about 3 months ago but it didn't seem to get anywhere.

I agree it would be very helpful to have a table like this which was updated commented on so that we get the best settings.

Having just suggested to my daughter that she get an Orchid V4 to 'tame' her family's telephone use, I'm looking for a list of 'recommended settings' too.

She has a BT landline with Primus Saver Option 2 CPS and also has 1899, 18185 and 18866 accounts. I've suggested:

    0
    1/02 calls
Weekday evenings - 18:00 to 08:00 Monday to Friday - no routing (via CPS)
Weekends - 18:00 Friday to 08:00 Monday - no routing (via CPS)
    Weekday daytime - 08:00 to 18:00 Monday to Friday - 1899 prefix

    070 calls
    Bar

    077, 078 & 079 (UK mobile) calls
    18185 prefix (via 18185.co.uk)

    0844, 0845, and 0871 calls
1280 prefix at all times (hop back onto BT)

    0870 calls
    18185 prefix 00:01 Monday to 23:59 Friday (via 18185)
1280 prefix 00:01 Saturday to 23:59 Sunday (hop back onto BT)

    09 calls
Bar (this may be unnecessary because Primus don't pass 09 calls anyway)

    128009 calls
    Bar
(this may be unnecessary because she could get BT to bar 09 calls [free] anyway)

    118xxx calls
Digit translate any call to any 118xxx number to 08000192190
Digit translate any call to 192 to 08000192190

    123 (Speaking Clock)
Digit translate any call to 123 to 189901314777676 at all times (I'm not sure whether the time/time of day parameters in the 01/02 routing above would pick up the 01 leading digits of the destination number here so, to be on the safe side, I've included the 1899 prefix into the translation to ensure it's a 3p call at all times).

    00 (international) calls
18185 prefix at all times (via 18185.co.uk)

    Anyone got any suggestions/comments?

    Thanks.

0131-477 7676 no longer seems to work (it just rings and rings). I remember when it did work, it was hopelessly incorrect (almost 2 minutes out).

    However 0845 092 8081 still works.

As do 0131 5500892 (about 30 seconds fast) and 01923 287748 (about 7 seconds fast).

Post #549 amended to the 01923 287748 number.

Not exactly on topic, but I had a problem with my V4 Orchid dialler this afternoon. I was trying to ring a number that was constantly engaged, and if I did not give the dialler a few seconds between each attempt it would fail to route my call.

Seems to be working fine now BTW, its only when repeatedly attempting to dial the same number too quickly.

    Aaaagghh!!

I've just been updating my routing table for the first time in months and have been baffled why it's not taking.

After fiddling with the routing tables some more and a couple of google searches & a bottle of blood pressure pills later I discovered the dial-up number (geo & no geo) have been bleeding busy!!!! >:-<

I hope this is just a one-off maintenance window, I suppose this would be the best time to perform these... <sigh> It's not as if anyone in their right mind would be updating their routes at this time of night/morning on a weekday anyway!? :/

What's really annoying me now is that I'm actually finding it difficult to get mad at Orchid though. I mean, their dialler is still a pretty darn good product after all, not to mention their support!

Oh well, best try and get a couple hours kip.... |-O

I have done a search on this board and can't find an answer so I wonder could someone advise me please.
I would like to buy the orchid dialler. [Is it easy to use?]
We have just moved into this new house and there are three telephone points----one in the hall, one in the kitchen and one in the master bedroom. Do we need three diallers? I hope this isn't a stupid question!
    Thanks.
