    When ordering they should have emailed you with a username and password, if not just ring them, usually with an email it can take them a few hours to reply. They are very helpful and friendly and will try to sort out your problem straight away.
  • Ok, have deceided to stay with NTL. BT were supposed to reconnect me today, it went very wrong and BT customer services are crap (by the way). Is it easy enough to programme the V4 dialler to work with 18866 & 1899?? I noted there are extra access numbers needed for NTL customers to benefit, anyone care to take time out and help me :A Thanks ;)

    You'll find all the answers in the previous 28 pages of this thread.

  • Yeah, I checked those out after I posted my thing. Was feeling abit flustered, had spent over an hour on the fone to BT and had to listen to crap music before I spent another hour trying to get the customer service adviser to pass me onto a manager :mad:

    Rather than read all 28 pages here I will ask my own question .I was considering buying a V4 dialer for my elderly parents .But I have one problem how do I deal with international calls .My parents live in Northern Ireland there calls to southern Ireland are free at evening and weekends with Talk Talk and local rate during the day.My problem is all calls to southern Ireland start 00353 they also make occasional calls to South Africa .Any ideas how I should set up the v4 dialer for this .

    The easiest way (a slight cop out but so what?) would be to specify just that to Orchid when you order and ask them to program the V4 for you (your parents).

    They'll then set it up so calls starting 00353 are routed via Talk Talk evening and weekends and using whatever prefix you specify during weekdays. It looks to me like 1899 is one of the cheapest (1p/minute) so, if you register your parents' number with 1899, the prefix 1899 during the week would be appropriate.

    Similarly, Orchid could program the V4 to prefix any call starting 0027 with 1280 (to hop back onto BT) and 08448614848 (to dial out through Dialwise at 1p/minute).
    Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
    There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").
  • Hi

    I have just finished digesting all 28 pages for the second time and wanted to test my understanding.

    Currently I have a Telewest telephone line with Talk Unlimited with latest monthly bill as:

    1. Line rental £10.50 (includes recent £0.50 increase)
    2. Talk Unlimited £15.00 (includes £0.50 decrease)
    3. Calls to mobiles, and very, very few 0845/0870 (thanks saynoto0870) £10.00

    I was searching on MSE for Telewest to see if there were any hints and tips when I chanced upon this thread.

    I have the following proposal - can you have a look and correct my errors:

    0. Downgrade Telewest to just line rental (I don't think this has any impact on our Essential TV package or broadband costs) which now includes Talk Unlimited Weekend (unlimited local and national calls)
    1. Buy some Orchid cordless phones with the V4 built in ( I was looking to buy some new phones anyway).
    2. Have it set up to call numbers starting ( these are expressed in my language, not LCR speak...):

    118 and 192 -> 0800 0192190 (not used very often)

    150 -> Telewest customer services (free)

    2 through 9 (and 0 landline calls) on weekdays -> call1899 on 0808 1 708 708 {PAUSE} {number} - charged at 3p connection plus 0ppm (landline), 3ppm (mobile weekend), 10ppm (mobile weekday)

    2 through 9 (and 0 landline calls) at weekend -> via Telewest

    0845 and 0870 -> call1899 (or block!!!!!) - charged at 3p connection plus 3ppm (0845), 7ppm (0870)

    070 -> block

    07 -> call1899

    09 -> block

    International (no real requirement) -> call1899

    If any of this is correct, then thanks to all who contributed, and if it's wrong, I take the credit!

    One thing is for sure is that whatever setup I start with it will change as the providers change their rates etc.

    Calling Telewest customer services is an interminably long process - does any one have any short cuts to telling them what I want to do?

    Thanks

    wakey

    I'm on BT but, if I had a TW line, that's exactly what I'd do (although I'd check on the MSE CallChecker and Niftylist first rather than just routing any calls starting '00' via 08081708708).
    Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.
  • yeah Orchid have been great with me. I've never yet had to set up or change anything with my dialler, Toby at Orchid has done it all. And because I can't access my routing info, he's offered to change any details as and when, which is excellent customer service. Other companies should follow suit.
