  • I was reading through the V4&V4Plusmpg where on page 5 it says:

    Set Real Time Clock:
    **#0000*(hhmmdowddmmyy) *2 DOW: 1 = Monday 7 = Sunday

So this morning at 11:04 would be

    **#0000*11041040705 *2

Looks like we dont need to call home to update the clock anymore....

Why do you have to reset the clock?

In October, for the change from BST>GMT and, in March, for the change from GMT>BST.
Their - possessive pronoun (owned by them e.g. "They locked their car").
    They're - colloquial/abbreviated version of 'They are'
There - noun (location other than here e.g. "You can buy groceries there") OR adverb (in or at that place e.g. "They have lived there for years") OR adverb (to or towards that place e.g. "Go there at noon") OR adverb (in that matter e.g. " I agree with you there").

I see, is this just so that the itemised billing is correct?

No, so that the Orchid knows when to route your calls (e.g. 0600-1800 via 18866 but 1800-0600 via your CPS).

Also, I have just had a reply from Jim at Orchid, and he states that the clock in the dialler will maintain the correct time for up to 3 minutes if unplugged. That feature came in handy this weekend when I had to unplug the dialler to decorate the hallway. I made sure that it was plugged into one of the extra telephone sockets around the house within this time and the dialler continued behaving normally.

    Hi,

I had need to log a call with BT last Thursday as I had no ADSL/telephone service at all. Normal service resumed about 5 hours after logging the call. I tried to cancel but got bored after waiting 20 mins for their call center.

Expecting an engineer to call the following Wednesday, I was surprised when he telephoned me on Saturday. I advised that all was not OK but he said that the line was showing a 'loop' fault and would still like to come to take a look.

He diagnosed the V4 dialer as causing a 'loop' on my circuit.

I don't really know whether to believe him or not as my phone service is, and has been since Thursday OK. I am still using the V4 with no problems.

    Anyone else had similar problems?

I'm not sure what this loop thing is either but having a Sky box plugged into the line gives the same result. I got told the same thing from BT but they insisted it was my Sky box as it generally is only the Sky box that gives this 'loop' result and after explaining Sky hasn't been plugged into the telephone line for years did we find out it was the v4 dialler. I was told by an engineer that sometimes a 'loop' result would indicate a fault with the line if you didn't have Sky plugged into the line (or as it turns out, a v4 dialler as well). He said there is nothing to worry about unless this 'loop' result occured even with Sky unplugged & without any LCR diallers. Apparantly, Sky & the LCR dialler when connected both cause this 'loop' thing to appear when they do a line test but was assured that unless it continued after unplugging these two items then it wasn't the line at fault and it is normal for the Sky box and LCR to give this result.

You said it yourself that everything is working fine and has been for a while. So long as you have ADSL filters fitted and you no longer have problems then you're ok.

If it happens again and if you wanted you could just simply unplug the v4 dialler and see if you still have the same problem with the line/ADSL not working. If it is ok without the v4 dialler connected but not with it connected then it is the v4 dialler but I don't believe it was the problem.

That's good to know. Do you know if it can remember the routing info as well within this 3minutes?
