That may be a good idea. At present I would not advise anyone to buy a V4 dialler. First of all when I bought it a few weeks ago, I had trouble dialling home because "the server was down".

Now I want to alter my settings, and since last Friday I have not managed to access the CW client. Seems to be down all the time.

Hope the company is not going down the drain. Unless they sort their problems out, it will be one of the worst investments I have ever made.

Seriously, let them get over the server problems and it will pay for itself in a maximum of 3 months, mine was paid for in 10 weeks! Now just savings!

I had no reply to the e-mail I sent yesterday, so had to dial their 0870 number:rolleyes:

Was told that the problem was someone from the States hacking into their server, so they are beefing up the security.
Hopefully when this is done things should return to normal

    I've made my mind up.

Because of this need for contacting Orchid's severs to perform configuration of the dialer and for this CWclient program which can't work unless it had access to these servers, I'm going to do it the hard way and just remember to dial the access numbers myself.

It's possible I may change my mind depending if I get round to writing this program that can program the dialer without having to use Orchid's servers. I have already decided that if I ever complete this program, it'll be released as freeware (not GNU) and will remain as freeware.

I may be able to adapt a progrem I wrote a number of years ago for another purpose to to the programming. This other program has to dial a number and then send DTMF tones to the device at the other end. It's a seruously simple program.

What I would need to write is a front end where the settings could be programmed and stored in a file, so the settings can be edited and then DTMFed to the a dialer as many times as required.

This may turn out to be an interesting little project(let). This is unless Orchid themselves would be nice enough to write a CWclient alternative that does the same thing as I propose?

It interesting that some hacker is poking at the this server and it might have not been compromised, but Orchid has been forced to disable access to it. Hmmm.....
  • If Orchid is down - DO NOT buy the auto dialler. Wait till the sytem is restored, if ever, and take a view on what the company says. I've used it for the last few months and it has been ok, up till now .....

I don't think I'll attempt to buy any of the dialers unless I can create program where the dialer can be easily programmed and re-programmed from a stored configuration WITHOUT relying or Orchid's servers.

    Myron,
There are other stand alone dialers out there but they have spammed this site so they are persona non grata - see mine and other contributers about this. Release this program you've been banging on about and watch the fur fly.Who cares about any of the vested interests of companies, who don't really care a fig about us, only their bottom line-all the rest is crocodile tears. This site styles itself as a consumer revenge site.
Peel back your baby's eyelid to find no nationality or religious identity mark there. Peer at your baby's eyes for them to reflect back just people-throw away your flags and religious symbols...

I called them today and they say their service is working again. They told me they upgraded server capacity last week. So I ordered the Ranger 400 (needed a new phone anyway) which I should get on Thursday.

I had to phone the order because the webshop was unbearably slow but got the 20% MSE discount without any probs.

If you can say hand on heart that a £15 product failing to connect to a server is one of the worst investments you have ever made...... me thinks you might be getting a little bit too much sun (or not enough), either that or you have been watching too much Bargain Hunt

It's not actually the dialler that was the problem. The problem was their server was down for a few days due to (I believe) a DoS attack and then a server upgrade probably so as to avoid further attacks. It is working now and has been (whilst I tested it anyhow) for last few days.
