Still no joy, but I have noticed the number that the dialler has to dial home to (01536272200) seems to be continually engaged when dialled from my home phone.

Methinks this could be the problem. (All the moneysavers trying to update their tables during weekend offpeak period)

I am merging this with the Orchid Dialer thread as Orchid support post on that thread.

I had this problem at a weekend when first setting up the dialler. Orchid explained (IIRC) that the number was offline because of maintenance. You'll find them very quick and responsive when there is a problem.

Thanks very much for replying. Sounds like nothing wrong with my dialler after all. The number is still engaged this morning. Presumably the dialler connects the same way as a dial up modem would connect to the internet. If that is the case, it would explain why the light on the dialler only flashes 12 times - seems like it is trying to connect then gives up.

Tried the number just before 10am and not engaged. So with bated breath I forced the dialler to dial home and worked first time. The problem was exactly what Tim stated.

    Hi,

Once my call allowance from OneTel is used up, I want to override all NGN back to BT.

Would the easiest way, instead of listing 0870 and 0845 separately, just specify that I want all 08 numbers overrode? (I am trying to play it safe in case the missus rings any 0871 or 0844 numbers). I suppose this also would not matter for 0800 numbers.

By the way, the dialler is a cracking piece of kit when used in conjunction with the CW client software.:D

    Yes.

Add carrier 1280 - 'CPS Override' (if not already added)

Then just specify that 084... & 087... calls are routed to the carrier '1280 - CPS override'

During the daytime, you can use other providers like Dialaround.co.uk as they charge 5ppm for calls to 0870 and 2ppm for calls to 0845. During the evening & weekend though it is better to have BT handle these calls.

Cheaper 0845/0870 during the daytime was discussed here (specifically the post by pricefighter).

I have just checked and both Dialaround access numbers you need to use for 0845/0870 calls are already in the carrier list.

Orchid special offer - TRIPLE pack of Ranger 400 Special DECT walkabout phones £44.99, incorporating the V4 dialler and free LCR programming. Not bad.

I just wanted to add my support to all the other threads recommending the V4 dialler.

I have been using one for about 6 months now and until January had no problems. Like others the main reason for the purchase was to force other members of the household who cannot remember to prefix numbers to use 18866 etc at the right time, and also to block premium rate numbers.

Orchid support is outstanding when compared to the usual useless response you get from typical support sites (have you tried talking to BT call centres these days?).

I took my eye off my BT bill in January just after the last one was issued. A fault developed on the V4 dialler and it was trying to dial home every 2 hours (0845 number). The problem is I never saw this until April when the new bill arrived! A big thank you to Orchid for replacing the V4 and refunding me the £46 that it was going to cost me.

Lesson learned - don't get complacent when you think you have minimised your telecoms costs, check your recent calls every week with BT even if you don't think you have made any through them and maybe sign up to a text alert from BT.
