booked for belfast central today, hoping its ok location wise, was there or the ibis but the £20 room offer made it too good a deal to pass by.

caernarfon is a great base for that area and as mentioned above, morrisons close by for a cheap brekkie :)

We stayed at Belfast Central, which was a fab location. The room was slightly older, but very clean and huge compared to others we stayed at. It was about 5 mins walk from there to the Coach and Train station. Buses ran from Belfast Cirty airport to the Coach station and only took about 15-20 minutes. The train also goes to Cultra for the great Folk and Transport Museum. The Folk bit is fab as it consists of a whole village rebuilt brick by brick and it has real fires in the thatched cottages, staff in costume doing spinning, laying fires etc. Well worth taking a camera with you for pictures. We hired a car from a place around the corner for a couple of days and drove to the Giants Causeway one day and on another day we drove to Down which has a lovely Museum in an old Gaol, a fab cathedral and lovely scenery. The road in front of the hotel had parking restrictions (meters) lifted from 6.30pm to 8am, which was not a problem as we were out all day from early morning. You are a few minutes walk from the hotel to the main shopping area, place to eat and nightime entertainment. You are also only about 10 minutes walk from the Quayside which has an entertainment complex with places to eat.

Oooh that sounds good Mich, never done the Giants causeway yet. Will need photos ;)

Will probably book the Halykn travelodge for my return trip as I've stayed there before and it's just for the night, and although not highly rated on TA, we didn't find in that bad. I don't need to be in a town for that night as we are arriving late. Will look out for a cheap deal for it on here. No clue about the first stopover yet still, but than I haven't really had the chance to look.

We have just had a good weekend staying at the Ringwood TL. It is good for visiting the New Forest. The hotel itself is by busy A road so noisy but we kept the window shut. It has a Little Chef restaurant on site, but we ate in a hotel/pub across the street which does a decent offer of 2 main courses for £10. Also there is M&S at the petrol station next door so we got our breakfast there. We visited the National Motor Museum (30 min drive from hotel) and Kingston Lacy house/gardens (very beautiful).
  • Has anyone stayed at the Derby Pride Park Travelodge? If so, would you recommend?

We have stayed at the Colwyn Bay Travelodge last summer. It is brand new and lovely and clean but Colwyn Bay is an absolute dump. It is full of pound shops and the town centre is very run down. The hotel was lovely but I would never go to Colwyn Bay again.

Technically Colwyn Bay only has one pound shop (the Poundworld across the carpark from the Travelodge). The other's are all junk shops. But speaking as someone who works in Colwyn Bay I agree the town is a little bit 'tired' and not somewhere you'd want to stay for too long.

But would it be ok just for ONE night as a stopover? Is there any decent eateries, italian or pub food is fine?

I will google, but just wanted some hand feeding too

Colwyn Bay Travelodge is ok for a stopover although I wouldn't recommend it for anything more than that. It's located right next to a slip road off the A55 so it's easy to get to and away from. It doesn't have it's own car park but I believe they have a deal with the shopping centre next door that allows their guests to park there. It's a barrier controlled car park so it should be reasonably safe.

There's one Italian restaurant in town, Virgilio's, which I've never been to but seems to get good write ups and is only about a five minute walk from the Travelodge - http://www.tripadvisor.co.uk/Restaurant_Review-g551979-d1929431-Reviews-Virgilio_s_Ristorante-Colwyn_Bay_North_Wales_Wales.html.

If you wanted breakfast then your best bet would be the local Wetherspoons (called The Picture House - it's a converted cinema). I think they serve breakfast from 8am and again it's only five minutes walk or so from the Travelodge.

For future reference Travelodge have bought the Clarence Hotel which is one of the big hotels in the centre of Llandudno. It seems it's going to need a lot of work so it most likely won't be open until next year but it will be a much better location than the Colwyn Bay one. Llandudno is much nicer town with a far better selection of restaurants, pubs and amenities than Colwyn Bay can offer. If you need to make any stopovers from 2013 onwards then I wouldn't look any further than the new Llandudno site.

Very interesting, fingers crossed that it is opened as a travelodge in the middle of LLandudno - just going to need a massive ammount of work and money spent on it.

LLandudno is brilliant, masses to do in itself plus a good central point - excellent vareity of thigns to do within a half hour/one hour drive :T Plus it has a train station

Thank you :) I did look at staying at llandudno but it seems that they have a kite festival there during the weekend I need to stop over on and most of the places are charging more expensive prices :(
