Very interesting, fingers crossed that it is opened as a travelodge in the middle of LLandudno - just going to need a massive ammount of work and money spent on it.

LLandudno is brilliant, masses to do in itself plus a good central point - excellent vareity of thigns to do within a half hour/one hour drive :T Plus it has a train station

Travelodge have started work on the Clarence, and already started causing mayhem!

I'd imagine this place will be extremely popular when it eventually opens, it's right in the town centre and minutes walk from the promenade, the pier and many of the better restaurants and pubs in town. The potential downside will be parking as it doesn't have a car park of it's own so it will interesting to see how they get around that problem.

Thank you :) I did look at staying at llandudno but it seems that they have a kite festival there during the weekend I need to stop over on and most of the places are charging more expensive prices :(

I hadn't heard of the kite festival before, sounds like fun (not that I'll be trying it out).

If you can get a deal you could look at the Llandudno (Glan Conwy) Premier Inn. Despite the name it's not in Llandudno, it's just off the A55 at the Llandudno turn-off. It's a bit in the middle of nowhere but it has a Brewers Fayre attached which does meals and breakfasts. It's about a 5-10 minute drive from Llandudno itself and there's a Cineworld about a mile away so if you've got time to kill there's plenty to do close by. If cost wasn't an issue I'd pick this place ahead of the Travelodge in Colwyn Bay every time.

I know Premier Inn sometimes do sales and offer rooms for £19 but I've never tried to book one so I don't know how often these deals come around.

I hadn't heard of the Kite festival until I done some googling about where to stay, http://www.visitllandudno.com/services/visitpage/Events/62 - it listed there, land and water kiting, don't know much about it though as it's not really my thing :o Just discovered that some places where fully booked.

I've looked at Premier Inn, and they seem good, but it's just the price that puts me off, it's good if it's your main place you are staying if that makes sense, but quite expensive to pay just for a stopover. I know what I am thinking so hope that makes sense.

I apprecriate your kind help x

Might stay in the one at Colwyn Bay in September on way to Ireland for the night. I've looked at TA and the reviews look good, but I shall wait until TL has a sale for that time of year before I book. Always like to stay on one near a town when we go over so we can get an evening meal.

Just wondered if you'd looked at the Travelodge in Caernarfon? It would take you about a 14 miles round trip to go there and back onto the A55 for Holyhead. Free parking in car park near by. Central to walk around the town.
There are some OK places to eat, I like the Indian myself, but there are many more. It's next to a Table Table-sometimes they have offers on.

The Caernarfon Travelodge has had quite a few favourable mentions on here. It is a great location, on the Menai Straits and next door to the Marina and the Galeri arts centre. I've heard very mixed reviews of the "local" eateries, including Table Table and Fu's, but you're only a couple of minutes walk from the Black Boy Inn (yes really) where you can get proper freshly prepared local food - http://www.black-boy-inn.com/dining.htm. There's also a Morrisons with a cafe just over the road for a cheap breakfast.

Just back from a stay at Travelodge Croydon (Central).

Five minutes easy walk from East Croydon Station (Zone 6 ) and 15 minutes on the train to Victoria -20 minutes to Gatwick.

Hotel is a converted office block and five years old-staff were exceptionally friendly and smiley. Usual basic TL rooms but our room was in excellent condition and hot water/shower pressure was great.

We used it for a show at the Fairfield Halls (5 minutes stroll with a Sainsburys Express open til 11 enroute) but would work equally well for a shopping trip (Whitgift Centre is a stones throw of the hotel and there is a nice museum nearby too). Plenty of places to eat within a couple of minutes walk from Subway and MacDonalds to Chinese and Italian resturants.

Other good uses are as a base for a trip to London as the train service is excellent and runs practically all night or as a cheap stay before flying out from Gatwick -train fare is £5. There's also a bargain bus route from East Croydon station to Heathrow £1.35 with Oyster or £2.60 without .

We paid £20 but I've seen it on the £10 offers too

  • Just came back from a 3-day trip staying at manchester central travelodge-funny, it was 'salford'when i stayed there years ago on business!just across the irwell so technically salford but right next to city centre and a great location for being right in the middle of the action.£48/3 people/3 nights and a great big room on 7th floor overlooking the city.1 double, 1 sofabed.service was desultory, but if you asked for toilet rolls, soap etc you got them! Manchester is compact and walkable for museums, eating out, theatres, cinemas etc. Me and kids had a great, affordable, cultural break

Good. There should only be special hotel rooms for pets. I suffer from allergies and let's be honest even when a fee is paid the room is often not specially cleaned after a pet has been there - even in top hotels. Misery and disruption to life caused by dog hair has affected me for weeks when I've been caught unknowingly by contact when a dog has been in a room before me. If people want to travel with their dogs or other pets and if hotels are prepared to accommodate this, then I believe the only sensible policy is to allow pets in certain particular rooms only which are never offered to anyone who mentions they would prefer to avoid a room which has been occupied by a pet. I do think pet owners sometimes underestimate the issues that unfortunately others can suffer from so perhaps thisi could be a compromise. PLEASE don't underestimate the misery this can cause.
Folk should be aware that Travelodge say that the £20 charge is to cover the cost of cleaning a room after a dog has been in it. The housekeeping staff get minimum wage and are allowed 25 minutes to clean the bedroom and bathroom. You can work it out how much time can be spent on a room to clean if all the £20 was allocated, If it was spent then the room would be more sanitised than any others

I think this is fair enough as no beast should come before a human and we genuinely love our dog.

Sorry but I can give over 100 examples to show humans are a lot dirtier than dogs, staying at hotels seems to turn some of them into animals

We have just had a good weekend staying at the Ringwood TL. It is good for visiting the New Forest. The hotel itself is by busy A road so noisy but we kept the window shut. It has a Little Chef restaurant on site, but we ate in a hotel/pub across the street which does a decent offer of 2 main courses for £10. Also there is M&S at the petrol station next door so we got our breakfast there. We visited the National Motor Museum (30 min drive from hotel) and Kingston Lacy house/gardens (very beautiful).

Oh what a difference to Stoney Cross it must be then- wish I'd booked there!
We stayed at Stoney Cross, New Forest last week for a day trip to paultons park and a day in the forest before heading to the isle of Wight. The room wasn't prepared for a family, one towle etc, but quickly sorted. The room though was freezing! taking a bath was v v cold, the shower had all the knobs broken off, there were burn marks on the wall above an electric heater that didn't work...
But because our door didn't even lock tight, we couldn't leave our stuff once we were there, so settled for eating dinner in the attached Little Chef instead of one of the many gorgeous pubs locally!
It was cheap... but i woul;dn't stay there again.
