Sheffield Central was fine, views not cracking but you are in a dip surrounded by tall buildings so what can you expect!

At least you had a view, both times I've been there I've had a view of the car park, which is a solid brick wall about 5 metres from the window!

But I didn't go there to look at the view so it doesn't bother me at all. The hotel itself was very nice, relatively modern fittings compared with most travelodges. The Bar/Cafe served me a very nice pizza and the breakfast wasn't bad either.

The only complaint I might have is that if you are wanting to eat there in the evening the checkin desk person is the same person that takes food and drink orders, so if there are a lot of people checking in, don't even bother going to the bar!
  • Travelodge pillows are getting worse. I was at Leeds Colton last night and two pillows together didn't even reach the width of one pillow at home. I got the 'spare' pillow down so then I was sleeping with 3 pillows and even then it was inadequate.

We Have just returned from the TL in Atlantic Wharf (Cardiff Bay). Lovely new looking hotel, with really friendly staff. Got megabus from Victoria, London (£4 return each) to Cardiff and then got the circular route baycar no 6 bus from outside the Cardiff Hilton, which is just beside where the coach dropped off, to the bay. The bus stops across the road from the TL and I saw the train was a few minutes walk away also. It is beside the Red Dragon centre which has bowling(pre-booked 1p half term bowling each day), lots of restaurants, a cinema, DR Who exhibition, radio station. There is a casino and I saw TL customers get their first drink free it said on the window. It is a 5 min walk to the bay area, which has a theatre and lots of lovely bayside restaurants. There is a 1950s style bayside diner which hubby loved. There are a couple of banks and a Tescos. Also it had stalls in the street selling cakes and Jams, crafts and books mainly. We went on a boat trip around the bay, which lasted 30 mins and was £4 return per adult and £2 per child. There was a lighthouse boat that you could walk around for free and had a nice cafe onboard. Also free entry is the Norwegean church at the bay and the telescope shaped centre of information. We got the bus to Cardiff (we later found out it would have been about a 25 min walk) and visited the castle and old fashioned indoor market and victorian type alleyway shops. The breakfast was good at the TL, as constantly replacing hot food items and nice comfy sofas to drink coffee.

thanks so much for this. i have booked this location for next may (£9 sale) so this was helpful
QUIDCO £2827 paid out since October 2007:D
  • The Newcastle Central Travelodge is right on the quayside so really well placed for seeing the city. Parking is extra and £5 per day if I remember rightly.

Just a reminder that travellodge also have three hotels in Spain ie BARCELONA & MADRID X2...I've stayed long weekends in both cities and with the metro links near by easy to get out and about..and excellent value for money...Straight forward run of the board travel lodge rooms but hey 20 euros a night divided by four what more do you need!

Anyone know if they include Spanish hotels in their sales

I have stayed in about 50 TLs and my favourites are EUSTON as you can get a bus or Tube to anywhere, and ALTON FOUR MARKS where your room overlooks countryside.

I second the Alton Four Marks. It is lovely location and very scenic.
We loved the St Austell TL as well.
I wanted to thankyou a million times but its a shame that I can press the button just once :T

Here's a vote for the Heathrow Central TL. I stay here most weeks on business for a couple of nights. I used to stay at one of the "proper" hotels nearby but I had to tighten my belt. I now pay about one-third what I used to and, TBH, it's pretty good. Being newish, everything works. Sure, there's little things awry every now and then but no more than I used to experience at the Marriott or the Sheraton.

A couple of tips if you plan on staying here:

    a. Book a family room. There's loads of them and they're always the same price as the regular rooms. The rooms are slightly bigger and you get a sofa, plus a bath/shower instead of just a shower. If you're in a normal double room, you WILL soak the bathroom floor having a shower. Don't worry about it.

    b. If travelling to/from the airport, look at the TFL (Traffic for London) website and check out the buses rather than the hotel hoppa service. Cheaper and much more frequent. A bit more difficult though if you have a lot of luggage.

    c. If arriving by underground, please note the Travelodge website quotes the nearest station to be Hounslow East. This is just plain wrong. Hounslow West is the nearest underground station. It's still too far to walk from there with luggage though, so you should carry onto to Heathrow T123 and get a bus from the central bus station.

    d. Breakfast is a decent quality hot buffet and good value. Don't have dinner here - walk out of the hotel and turn either left or right and you'll come to a decent pub within 5 minutes in either direction. The Jolly Waggoner (turn to the right) is my favourite.

    e. Ask for a room away from the lifts. Less chance of disturbance. The TL is no worse for this than any of the other hotels, but all the Heathrow airport hotels suffer from people toing and froing at all hours.

    f. Book online as early as possible. I tend to book up one or two months in advance and I've paid anything between £9 and £32, with £19 - £25 being most common. Great value.

    g. There's a decent Tesco Metro two minutes from the hotel (turn left) for any shopping you may need. Cash dispenser there also.

    h. The lifts can be busy. There's two and they're quite small. If you don't have lots of luggage, give the stairs a try. Reception is on the first floor, not the ground floor.

    i. If you arrive on the Hoppa service and there are lots of people, one of you should hop up the stairs to beat the inevitable queue to check in when the Hoppa disgorges a lot of passengers.

    j. The car park is £5 per day. It isn't run by the hotel so there's no point in addressing any queries to the staff. You pay at machines just like a public car park. If you arrive in the evening I don't recommend taking your car out again - there's no guarentee that you will get a place when you arrive back!

    k. Any other questions, or for more info on the buses to / from the airport, don't hesitate to PM me.

    I've been Money Tipped!
BASINGSTOKE - Avoid! Smelly room, dirty beds, wrong amount of bedding in the room. Furniture old and tired. Staff unhelpful. £9 far too much money to pay to return there.

HASTINGS - Generally okay. Used to be a top end hotel, so entrance is still large and stone flooring in parts. Staff pleasant and helpful. Have stayed a few times and only had one room which we weren't happy with (mouldy bath and poorly cleaned).

we live in sheffield and are looking for travel lodges (in the sale) that we can try and book for a weekend away.

Thinking of York, Scarborough and Chester - but all these seem to have huge parking charges.

does anyone know of ones in the area with good things to do close by that don't have huge parking charges.

    TIA

    Hi Jenny

Chester-Northop Hall is about 8 miles from Chester on the A55 towards North Wales, no parking fee's are charged. Although fairly near a duel carrigeway we haven't heard much noise at night. Also very near to Cheshire Oaks- outlet village.

You would need a car to and from Northop Hall, there is nowhere to walk to.
