Hm. Guess as one person said above, some have better experiences in the same hotel than others, so not an easy discussion topic!

As you say you only get what you pay for but even for £9 I would expect clean sheets at the very most and if I was being very picky the floor hoovered and the bathroom cleaned! Don't care about TV or wireless etc etc for one night at that price but I do expect a clean room, clean sheets and clean towels. I still shudder at the thought of the Travelodge at King's Cross and the one further up (Royal Scot?) and the one at Liverpool Street, the sheets were just minging in every one of them..... and it didn't cost £9 it cost about £90 per night. I agree that TL have shaken up the hotel market a bit but their standards are not even ankle-high let alone standard!!! Interestingly, my relatives all swear by TLs but they have never stayed in the London ones I mentioned above. Guess it's been my bad luck but I am cautious about recommending Travelodges....

Personally I think the Bath city centre Travelodge is great. Its so central and in a lovely old building, bit noisy though. Its the only time me and the oh have stayed in one place for 3 days and just parked up our car and walked everywhere around there, so much to do!

I'd recommend the other Bath one - the Riverside. It used to be a Menzies so is a bit posher than your normal Travelodge (not sure about the blinds though!). It's a great location, only a few minutes walk from the town centre, with free parking (although I think they may start charging soon), and very close to the railway station so accessible for those who don't drive. As Freebyman says about the Bath Central one (which is above a nightclub, hence why we avoided it) Bath is compact and there is a lot to do, so being close to the centre you can just walk everywhere.

Also any of the central London ones, simply for the location. We've stayed inthe Kings Cross Royal Scot before now - basic but (as with all Travelodges we've stayed in ) clean, and will probably try some of the others like the Tower Bridge one next time there's a £9 offer on.
  • I couldnt see any votes yet for London Southwark . Its 2 minutes walk from the tube ,also walkable to the city and London Eye .Its also one of the newer Lodges . It is located close to a railway line but didnt disturb us too much .

Also good ones we have stayed in London are City Road and Euston also newer styled lodges. Less new but OK were Liverpool Street and Kings Cross.

Not so new but OK for £9 Royal Scot and Farringdon.

I dont think I would consider staying at any travelodge over the saver rate of around £30 but at £9 sale rate they cant be beat !

The one in Newport in the isle of wight is good, modern, flat tv's, bar cafe, only downside is no parking, but there is a carpark opposite.

I can recommend the Kew Bridge Travelodge, stayed there twice, 2nd time took the car and parked in their basement car-park £5 for 24 hours. No hassle, more like an hotel than some. It's within walking distance of Kew gardens and some good pubs/restaurants. The River is just across the road and there are other places to visit such as the Steam museum and another one for musical instruments I think. Have also been to Farringdon (terrible traffic noise) Wembley (the stadium tour is good, but make sure you pre-book the parking othewise they charge £18!) close by is the famous "Ace Cafe" on the North Circular. Cheshunt is nice too, very modern and hotel style, with lifts and a cafe, it may look as though it's in the middle of nowhere but is just off the M25. The town of Cheshunt is well worth a visit, lovely country park there and the river Lea with it's canal boats and wildlife etc.

  • I stayed in the Warrington Travelodge at £19 per night. The hotel is located in the centre of the town next to a shopping centre. It is an excellent location as it is only a short drive to Gulliver's world, Chester Zoo & Cheshire Oaks outlet shopping. Not too far away from Manchester & Liverpool either. Very friendly staff although reception was not manned during the day. Parking was an extra £5 per day though. Ensure your parking ticket is visable as they are very quick in putting a ticket on your car. My parking ticket was waivered though. Overall a decent stay.
  • I've stayed at Swansea town centre a few times - it's very central, but has no car parking although there is a NCP across the road. Think I paid about £20 for a weeks pass, which is quite expensive but I was doing a lot of driving, & have usually managed to get the £9/night rate! You could survive quite easily using the bus service, which is excellent around the city & goes down to the Gower very regularly during the summer - well worth a visit as it has the best beaches in the world (IMHO ). You can get a bus from the train station easily too.

I haven't eaten there, as there are lots of other places to eat within walking distance that are a lot cheaper.

Can agree with the comments about Birmingham Broard Street - we stayed on a saturday night & I got hardly any sleep as it was just like being at a party! & we were on the 6th floor! Never again!

Cardiff M4 is fine, with free parking, but you need to drive as it is just off the motorway, but not too noisy. It is also near to the Museum of Welsh Life at St. Fagans, which is great fun. It always seems to have lots of the £9/19 rooms available & I can't imagine too many p*heads go there.

Warrington Lymm is OK - has a McDs nearby for breakfast & free parking.

I've never had a bad experience at Travelodge (yet... :D)
& as for some happy ending I'd rather stay single & thin :D

I have just got to agree with you one hundred per cent.

At full price (£130 per night London) I might have issues but us MSE chaps and chapesses who get the £9 and £19 sale prices have the benefit of a good night's sleep in clean surroundings for a superb price. Problems are taken care of by the staff.........usually.

My only niggle (and it is a niggle, not a big deal) is that the TL Gatwick Airport is actually at Crawley which is about four or five miles away. OK, if you have a car with you, but by public transport or taxi it can be a bit of an expensive pain. But then Ruinair, send you to airpots which are 100 miles away and in a different country!

Anyway, back to topic, if you book the TL at Newcastle Central you are really in the centre of the one of the finest party cities in the whole world and at £9 it is tip-top value for money with cheap bars surrounding you and eateries to make the mouth water, not to mention the museums in this fair city..........rest of post edited by moderators to avoid undue advertising of God's own country! :D

My vote is for Worthing. Is right on the seafront. Our family room had a seaview accross the beach. Brand new rooms. Helpful staff. The disabled room and the family rooms we have had there were very big and spacious.

Only gripes were its hard to park if you cant get in the small car park. everywhere in worthing is limited pay and display or residents only. only other issue was that the incredibly spacious family room had very limited storage shelving than older hotels. the brand new plasma wall mounted tv screens were not visible to the kids sitting on the floor or beds.

Other favourite is City Road, London. Another new one. Family room is half the size of the worthing ones but at least is clean and new and has a bar which was useful to meet friends in. Also it did have an M & S food hall a few doors away. Is on the circle line making it easy to access all the free museums.

one of the worst ive stayed in was in bristol. old dirty rooms. we changed rooms 3 times because every room had windows which didn't have the safety device working on them. We wanted to have the windows open a bit to let air in as it was really really hot, but the thing that only allowed them to be opened a bit was broken in every room. We had a climbing 18 month old with us. ending up just putting up with the heat.
