i got sent a leaflet a few weeks ago saying i could get a sky+ (NOT HD) box for £49. when i phoned up to order it, the guy seemed unsure if it was going to be £49, and put me on hold twice, the second time i sat there on hold for 10 mins and then hung up - not wasting my phone bill on those idiots. I know sky are a bunch of very sly people, but i really do want sky+ as i know how handy it is. aint paying the current £99 for it though.
Also, i tried the link and its still coming up as not workin - will keep on trying though.
Thanks xx
Look on a well known auction site, where you will find +boxes for sale (around £30). ( I wonder why they are selling them)? Also you will need a quad L.M.B. and some cable (around £20), or contact a local aerial/dish fitter.
Note. I do not subscribe to Sky - I have Freesat High Definition :j without a subsription.0 -

For the initial cost of £49 for the box, we were prepared to pay an extra £19-50 a month (£9-75 x2 per month HD and multi-room) but they wont entertain it. BAH! Currently in e-mail contact with Sky but I won't hold my breath0

hi - am new to this site so not sure if you have already had this but last week our friends who have been with sky for 18 months rung up to cancel and was offered a free sky + box for £15 plus £30 installation. we phoned as have been with them 4 and a half years, went through to cancellations and said what are friends had been offered and we wanted the same or would cancel. we then got ours just for £15!!! i think you might have to have one of the packages ie sports or movies and you will need a bt line. i was well chuffed, it is so good, the only thing is i watch even more tv now as i can record it.:T0

Sky's offering this deal to MoneySavers in response to the error it made back in January for giving us permission to publish a code in the weekly email. (See the original thread)
The Full Low-Down
New Sky customers can get a years contract with a free Sky+ box (which is the famous hard drive recorder with live pause etc) plus £50 M&S vouchers before 24 March. The basic package costs £16.50 a month.
What you get- Free Sky+ box (usually worth £99)
- Free 2Mb broadband (if you rent your line from Sky rather than BT)
- Free weekend calls
- £50 M&S vouchers
- Installation, which costs £30
- Telephone line rental, which you get from BT or Sky at £10/month.
1. Go to this special Sky page before 24 March
2. Pick the package you want and check out.
Update by Martin 10.40am Wed 11 Mar. Last night Sky had a glitch meaning the link above didnt work. It's now fixed and when you click it you should see the deal.
Can this be beaten?
As a straight open to all deal, you can just sign up for a Sky+ box it's untouchable. Yet for those willing to spend time and play, there are some alternatives that are worth considering.- Forum Type Codes. There are often a few codes flying about (possibly even on this site) which can get you a slightly better deal (roughly £25 cheaper) on a Sky+ box - though currently Sky says none are active.
Yet these codes are given by Sky for specific individuals as promotional deals, and it is within its right to block you using them even after the fact (this is what happened with the original deal, it first said a code was "fine to tell people about", but actually it wasn't").
Rather than using them directly, the best thing to do is get the details of those details, phone its call centre, quote the deal and haggle to get it to match it.
- Cashback Sites for HD Deals.
Currently Sky has a promotion on that you can get a Sky HD box (ie higher definition) for £49, free installation, £30 M&S vouchers. So on the surface it looks like this is only £50 more than the deal above and you get HD.
Yet the subscription for HD is £9.75 a month more expensive, meaning over the year its actually nearer £170 more.
However, if you sign up for this deal via a special cashback website, you can get £120 cashback for it as well, that takes us back down to roughly the original £50 difference. Do remember though, while it usually works, cashback from cashback sites is never 100% guaranteed.
For those new to cashback, for more info on how it works see the Top Cashback Sites guide and to find the highest payer, the Cashback Sites Comparison Site.
Yet if you do have an HD TV, and want the HD box, it's a pretty good deal.
It's a hard-drive recorder which means you can live pause and rewind live programmes, and record things without tape. It's been called Sky's "killer application" and is rated by the Which? as the top box of its type.
Note there is no commercial relationship between Sky & MSE over this deal, as explained it's purely a 'sorry' for incorrect info given previously.

i am a sky subscriber and it costs £9.75 per month for sky+ service whether it is hd or not it the plus part(the ability to record or pause live tv) you are paying for not the hd so it does not work out £170 per year more expensive than the non hd sky+ service only the basic sky service
I thought they dropped the charge for sky + a while ago. My package is for 4 basic packs, free sky + box (everything above except bb and phone) and there is no charge for the use of the sky+ box, only an extra £9.75 if I wanted HD (which I don't).
Looking around their website I can see no sign of the charge for sky+"A cat can have kittens in the oven, but that don't make them biscuits." - Mary Cooper
"Have nothing in your house that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful" - William Morris

Sky+ ten quid monthly fee abolished
Sky have announced the end of the monthly £10 Sky+ fee.
BSkyB have charged £10 per month to anyone who has a Sky+ box and does not take the company's full package of channels.
BSkyB subscribers will no longer have to pay to retain the personal video recorder facilities from 1 July 2007.
If you have stopped subscribing and wish your Sky+ box to be restored to full function you simply have to subscribe to the lowest level Sky package.
Alternatively, ex-subscribers will now be allowed to use the device with the Freesat channels, but this will retain the £10 charge.
In effect you can now pay £15 per month for "2 mixes" and have Sky+ (was £25) or pay £10 per month for just the Freesat channels.
Will this offer stop people turning to Freeview Playback?

Went through to complete this online and received an error which told me to ring Sky. I was on hold for 40 minutes before speaking to someone to check that the order went through. The lady had no idea about this offer and said I had to choose either the free Sky+ box OR £50 of vouchers. She then went to contact the sales dept. And my cordless phone bleeped and died.
Came back to order it online and it won't submit, it just keeps refreshing the confirm my details page. Just going to try IE before giving up.I like to make money
