Out of interest, can anyone remember how last years Barclays ISA rate changed in the course of a year after the original headline grabbing higher interest rate?
I have some of the steps. The dates are base-rate-change dates and may not be exactly when the ISA rate changed. And I did not pick up all the ISA rate changes, just those when I thought to check. Note the early drop from 6.5% to 6% even though the base rate did not change (will they do the same with Golden ISA?). Then it held up quite well until the new year but reduced to well below a market-leading rate in time for the launch of the Golden ISA. Be warned, people! Go for the Golden ISA, by all means, but track the rate and be ready to transfer.

    10/4 base 5% ISA 6.50%
    1/5 base still 5% ISA 6.00%
    9/10 base 4.5% ISA 6.00%
    6/11 base 3%, ISA 5.72%
    4/12 base 2% ISA ??
    8/1 base 1.5% ISA 3.12
    5/2 base 1% ISA 2.61%
    5/3 base 0.5% ISA 2.10%

Same crap service as last year just been in to my branch can not pick up a simple application form but have to make an appointment. cant get one for 10 days.
I have an account but don't use it and got rid of the card so I can not register for on line banking.

Now I know why I don't use Barclays and moved last years ISA very soon after opening it for a better rate.

Moving my money to NAT WEST
Out of interest, why bank with ANY of the big guys? They all get pretty-much equally bad ratings in the financial press for both cost and customer service. Check out a few Which? reports or weekend financial pages before committing yourself to Natwest.
  • Wanted to open an ISA in branch yesterday - was told I coudn't as (even though I could provide other bank and credit card statements and utility bills) I do not have a passport or driving licence or already bank with Barclays.
It was suggested I apply for a provisional driving licence!

    Hi folks,

Just wanted to update you following a small number of messages we've seen and received saying there were problems with the Barclays ISA opening process. We followed this up very urgently after the problems in previous years.

Barclays says there was an internal computer glitch on Monday, which affected all product applications. It says this was sorted out on Monday evening.

If you experienced problems after that, please let us know.

Barclays don't provide application forms when you apply for products. The staff ask you the details, and inpu them on the computer. This is why you need to book an appointment.

It's a waste of paper handing out application forms, and then typing the data onto the computer. Waste of paper and time.

Yes, apply for a provision driving licence, or even a passport. Depends which one is cheaper though. Out of curiosity, why don't you have photo ID? Seems a bit strange.

Anyway, if you see this site (http://www.personal.barclays.co.uk/BRC1/jsp/brccontrol?task=popup1group&value=16150&target=_blank&site=pfs), bank/credit card statements and utility bills are not documents to proove who you are. They can be used for proof of address. This is why you can't open the ISA account.

Not everyone drives, goes abroad, works for the police or owns a firearm.

Most banks will take HMRC correspondence as name verification - but it appears that Barclays don't.

    Hi MSE Dan

Just to clarify - did the glitch only affect applications made on Monday (6th April) or those made until that date?

If the latter then it explains this years' problems but doesn't exactly instil any confidence!

    Thanks :)

(I may as well mention too, that despite Barclays telling MSE last year that interest would be backdated to 14 days of application for the Tax Haven ISA account, they've not paid me any interest until 19 May... over two months from application date. I've submitted a (second) formal complaint but thought you may like to know that Barclays don't always keep to their word.)
  • I opened a Barclays ISA yesterday. I forgot to bring my cheque book to open the account but was advised I could internet bank the money from my LTSB current account. However, once I signed and the deal was done I noticed he'd also opened a Barclays bank account. He explained I must open a Barclays bank account to become a Barclays customer before I can open an ISA with them. He said I would need to transfer the money from my LTSB current account to the Barclays current account and then to the ISA (2 transfers in total). He said there is no charge for using the Barclays current account (I think it's called a "Connect" account).

Is this the correct procedure or have I been sold a 'fast one'?

(Apologies is this has already been answered. I have searched this thread but couldn't find the answer I'm after).

    Thanks
    Scott

Does anyone know if PBs in Barclays branches are on commission or is it just a fixed salary?
