Not everyone drives, goes abroad, works for the police or owns a firearm.

Most banks will take HMRC correspondence as name verification - but it appears that Barclays don't.

    That's true.

Having one is no harm anyway. For example, you could show a drivers licence when you get random spot checks, apply for something, go into a bar/club, proof of age, etc...
I opened a Barclays ISA yesterday. I forgot to bring my cheque book to open the account but was advised I could internet bank the money from my LTSB current account. However, once I signed and the deal was done I noticed he'd also opened a Barclays bank account. He explained I must open a Barclays bank account to become a Barclays customer before I can open an ISA with them. He said I would need to transfer the money from my LTSB current account to the Barclays current account and then to the ISA (2 transfers in total). He said there is no charge for using the Barclays current account (I think it's called a "Connect" account).

Is this the correct procedure or have I been sold a 'fast one'?

(Apologies is this has already been answered. I have searched this thread but couldn't find the answer I'm after).

    Thanks
    Scott

It's called a 'Barclays Bank Account'.

Not sure if you need a Barclays account for an ISA though. I think the staff opened the bank account for you, as that is the only way to see your ISA balance online. The staff might assume you want to see the ISA stuff online. Without a Barclays current account, online banking is not possible.

Does anyone know if PBs in Barclays branches are on commission or is it just a fixed salary?

If you do not have a passport or DVLC you can still open an account with Barclays without it.

As long as you have a letter from HMRC, Job Centre, etc that quotes your NI number this this can be used as ID. Albeit a reduced level of ID but will still allow you to open a savings account with Barclays.

Hi there you dont have to have current account to have an isa. if you mentioned that you wanted to do online then you would need on. it should have been explained to you that you would have two accounts and the full reason for it. if possible you could try and go back to branch and ask why. if not ring customer services 08457555555 and log a complaint for it to be investigated will take around 7-10 days but you will have an answer.

hi there like any job these days it does involve targets for sales and customer service and bonus is payed accordingly. a good thing that i have noticed that if an advisor is pushing sales that customers dont want the sale(target) is removed. barclays remove the product from your target and you wont get a bonus at the set time, wether monthly/6 monthly/yearly. but it isnt down to getting payed straight away for a product a customer will canx in a week.

just a personal question why you ask?:rotfl:

Barclays don't provide application forms when you apply for products. The staff ask you the details, and inpu them on the computer. This is why you need to book an appointment.

It's a waste of paper handing out application forms, and then typing the data onto the computer. Waste of paper and time.
Yes, but the question is: why can't customers type the required information into a website for themselves, as they can with just about every other financial institution with a Web presence? Why make people spend time and money travelling to the branch and pay for parking, when the whole thing could be done in 5 minutes at home or over the phone? Proof of identity can be posted or taken into a branch later, when convenient.

And, for existing Barclays ISA customers (like me), where Barclays has personal details and proof of identity, there really is no excuse for forcing a branch visit. That's why Barclays won't be getting my ISA this year. Or any of my business ever, the way things stand.

as posted early on this thread running a branch means having to organise the infulx of isa's every tax year as well as still making sure my branch performs enough "other" business.

At my branches the isa's are being opened on an appointment basis between 3 and 5pm in half an hour slots. I have 4 advisors who are fully booked for upto 3 weeks with isa's and other appointments.

Its sometimes hard to put across to customers and the general public just how much paperwork the personal bankers have to complete now. As i have tried to explain to customers the bank now expects us to have full discussion documents completed with each customer at the time of any sales. Whilst i appreciate the view of i just want to open an isa, surely giving up 15/20 mins of your week to open one isnt going to cause to much hardship?

In some respects we cant win, we have stopped outsourcing the paper applications which not only caused massive problems at isa time but throughout the whole year as customer realised at different times of the year werent opened correctly e.t.c

A majority of customers have actually complimented me on how easy it is to open this year and on the service they have received in doing so.

On the commision note, these days there is no incentive for sellers to mis-sell. The bonus earned will be taken away from there incentive and even if products are cancelled for other reasons the seller is marked as red immediatley.
  • Just to add to this thread. I opened a Golden ISA online and it was completed within 3 minutes, and the account information and deposit showed up on my online banking page instantly.

No problems for me at all and I'd like to thank Barclays for making the process as hassle-free as possible.

Wow... I'm so glad that I never closed my Barclays Current Account because as an existing customer that was registered for online banking I was able to open my ISA online in about 5 minutes and it was available to view immediately.

For those people applying for an ISA this year I would suggest opening an account and registering for their online banking so that next year it will only take 5 minutes online too. I know their current account isnt great but I've just left it as my secondary account which I use now and then. Good luck those still trying to open an account!
