today i opened a new isa and it shows up as a second account is that normal

My wife phoned to open a Golden IS today. She has a Barclays ISA from last year. They quickly found her details, took her through security and were all set to open a new ISA, transferring the initial £1 deposit from her old ISA. Then there was a long delay and it was announced that there was some issue with her address, so she'd have to go to a branch. Forget that, she'll take her business elsewhere.
It really is pathetic. We've lived here ten years, they have the address against her old ISA and successfully write to her here. But she can't apply for her new ISA online or by phone.
Well, it's no great loss. 3.61% may be a top rate today, but I bet it slips way down the rankings within a few months, just like last year's ISA.
UPDATE: When she phoned the next day, she was told that the above information was incorrect and she had to go to a branch to open the ISA - she (wisely) did not have a Barclays current account, so had no way of funding it. Is that a joke?! How do other providers manage? Answer: they allow you to open an ISA with zero balance and then fund it with a cheque or other means. Why can't Barclays allow that? How useless. I knew it was a mistake to go anywhere near them in the first place.0 -

You are allowed to add to the existing one, as your allowed an ISA subscription each tax year. So since you put money into the account for 08/09 you can add to it now for 09/10. Speak to Barclays and see if they can amalgamate them into one account, they may not as no transfers allowed.Credit Card 6.9% - £0/£2800

I opened a Golden ISA yesterday morning, with an initial £5 funding from my Barclays Current Account. I must say, it was quick and easy to do and must give a big thumbs up to Barclays. :money:
Having banked at Barclays for years, I recently switched and do my main banking at A & L. Through A & L’s Internet Banking yesterday, I did a one off payment for the remaining £3,595 to go direct into my Golden ISA. The money was instantly debited from my account, but is not showing as having been received in my ISA – does anyone know how long it should take to get there?
An off topic question too, I hope you don’t mind. I opened a Monthly Saver at Barclays last week and set up a standing order from my A & L account. It was debited from my account on 2 April and has only been credited to my Monthly Saver today. Is this just a one off delay or will all future standing order payments also take this length of time to reach the destination?
Thanks for your time.0 -
Now where do I recognise you from ? lol
BACS + S/O's take 3 working days to reach the account of a different organisation if the clearing bank is not the same.0 -
Out of interest, can anyone remember how last years Barclays ISA rate changed in the course of a year after the original headline grabbing higher interest rate?0

Same crap service as last year just been in to my branch can not pick up a simple application form but have to make an appointment. cant get one for 10 days.
I have an account but don't use it and got rid of the card so I can not register for on line banking.
Now I know why I don't use Barclays and moved last years ISA very soon after opening it for a better rate.

Hi
As previous poster said you would have been able to transfer this years allowance into your existing Golden ISA. As you have opened a new one you could close this account within your 14 days cooling off period and this wouldn't effect your 09/10 cash isa subscription. Once it has been closed just get money transfered to the isa you opened last month.
There is no problem in having 2 accounts would be be easier to manage if you had one and you would get more interest paid as the int is paid monthly.hi i opened an 2008/2009 golden isa last month which has the full amount invested

I just opened my new Golden ISA in 6 easy steps and it was all very simple. However I am an existing Barclays customer and already used online banking so this made the whole process easier.
Having said that I didnt have any problems last year either so have been happy both times I've opened a Barclays ISA! :TCurrent Debt Owed To Family: [STRIKE]£12,575[/STRIKE] £9,000 :wall:Estimated Debt Free... [STRIKE]Dec 2012[/STRIKE] Aug 2012

I failed to get my ISA allowance because I couldn't transfer the money from my HSBC current account. The Barclays Golden ISA sort code was invalid, according to HSBC. I tried it over and over, called both HSBC and Barclays. Each said the other must be at fault. HSBC said that Barclays had not registered their new sort code properly. Barclays said that HSBC had not updated their sort code register. This might not have been a problem if the end of the tax year had not been on a Sunday, and also I was away from home so not near any banks, even on the Saturday. It was very frustrating, since HSBC's transfer is almost instant to any other current account with another bank.
