I am not a Barclays customer but I turned up at my local Barclays branch this morning (at just after 9am) with passport and NI number in the hope I might get an appt this morning. I was seen by a Personal Banker at 09.30hrs and the ISA was opened in minutes.
Faultless. Well done Barclays. The PB also said it was unlikely the variable rate would drop for some time.0 -
In previous years you have been able to apply for an ISA online in advance for the following tax year.
I am disappointed that this option is not available for this year. What I would like to do is have the account open and ready so that I can make my deposit on 6th April.
Snap. :T I had a face to face with Barclays today opening non ISA 6% Monthly Saver, I asked if I could put an application in while I was there for 2009/2010 ISA and fund it next week, was told no because we need minimum of 1.00 to open it, when i suggested giving a cheque dated for 6th April, answer was no to that as well.0 -
Hi guys, can anyone help??
I have an ISA with barclays, I set this up two years ago, so have put money in for the last 2 years. As barclays have there 1% bonus for the first year only, does this mean that from the 6th April my previous 2 years will earn interest at 2.61% and if I put more in for the next tax year I will get 3.61% on this next year only?
If the above is correct would it be wise to transfer the previous 2 years to a new ISA but for this years ISA allowance use barclays?
I hope this makes sense. Really appreciate your help.
Thanks J0 -

Tax Haven (08/09) pays ~1.10% AER.
If you've paid into the Tax Beater in two tax years, you will be getting the lower rate on all the money.0 -

Although it's easy to see why you would be disappointed, this is a result of moving the account opening from the ISA teams in Liverpool and Glasgow out to the branches - it was done with the specific intent of removing the customer service issues we've experienced in the past two years.
The benefit is that opening an ISA is now a quick process based around a 20 minute appointment - so it'll be just as easy for you to do next week. What would William Shatner do?0 -
Went into barclays at 4pm yesterday to open one for me and one for OH.
Was told that 3.61% Golden ISA wasn't available til after 6th April!!!
Left, double checked MSE went back - spoke to branch manager who told me I was right. God, knows how many people got turned away by the helpdesk!!
Got seen straightaway even though we had previously been told they were too busy! Had to stay in bank til 5.30pm after they had closed to get all paper work completed.
Excellent service once we got past the idiot who didn't know what she was talking about!!A very busy Yummy Mummy to a 1 year old gorgeous boy :smileyhea

Am a Barclays online customer, applied online for the cash isa, with help from one of their web-chat advisors, what a good idea that is. The paperwork arrived 2 days later, I invested the max £3600 and it appeared in my online account instantly.
Fantastic service, all done at lightening speed. 10 out of 10. :money:
